SPORTS CLUB FOCUS ON STAGG BOWL

The Roanoke Valley Sports Club's monthly program is devoted to the Stagg Bowl for tonight's dinner meeting at the Salem Civic Center.

The social hour begins at 5:45, with dinner at 6:30. Reservations are $12 for members and $15 for guests. The guest speakers include James "Moose" Malmquist, chairman of the NCAA Division III Football Committee.

Thursday's team practices are closed to the public. The practices Friday are open from 2:30-4:30 p.m., on separate fields at Salem High School.

\ A representative of the Shreveport (La.) Convention Bureau is expected to attend a meeting of the Roanoke Valley Hokie Club at 7 p.m. Monday at the Airport Holiday Inn.

Organizers have made plans to have one or two Tech football coaches at the function, which will be a celebration of the Hokies' 8-3 season and bid to the Independence Bowl on Dec. 31 in Shreveport. Admission to the meeting is $3 for adults and $1 for children, with a cash bar and light refreshments.
