GM recalls 460,000 Geos to fix hood latch

DETROIT - General Motors Corp. has recalled 460,000 Chevrolet Geo Metros to fix the hood latch.

GM said it became aware of the defect in the 1989 through 1993 models in a field report. One incident was reported to GM of the hood flying up while the car was in motion, but there were no injuries, the automaker said.

Owners are being notified by mail to take their vehicles to dealers where the repairs will be made free. Dealers will strengthen the attachment with two bolts, washers and nuts. - Associated Press

\ Home Shopping, TCI form joint TV venture

Home Shopping Network Inc., St. Petersburg, Fla.-based television retailer with an order-filing warehouse in Salem, said it has formed a joint venture with Tele-Communications Inc., the country's largest cable systems operator, to form a television shopping service for international markets.

They provided few details of the venture, to be called Home Shopping International, declining to say where and when they planned to start it. - The New York Times

\ Martin Marietta to buy General Dynamics unit

WASHINGTON - Martin Marietta Corp. said Wednesday it has reached an agreement to buy General Dynamics Corp.'s Space Systems Division for $208.5 million in cash.

The sale, which has been approved by the boards of directors of both companies, is expected to close by April 30. The transaction is subject to the approval of the government.

Martin Marietta said the sale also is conditional on its obtaining government approval within 60 days. - Associated Press
