NAVY SEAMAN DAVID W. BROWN JR., son of David W. Brown Sr. of 217 Missimer Lane and Karen S. Neal of 906 S. Pollard St., Vinton, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla.

Brown is a graduate of William Byrd High School.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT TIMOTHY W. GARDNER, son of Sarah L. Gardner of 731 Bullitt Ave. S.E., recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego.

\ PFC. NOVAL I. WRIGHT, son of Edward L. and Patricia C. Wright of Roanoke, has completed Army basic training at Fort Leonard in Wood, Mo., and advanced individual training at Fort Lee, Va.

Wright is a 1993 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ REGINALD M. JACKSON, son of Regina and John Jackson Jr. of Roanoke, is participating in Operation Restore Hope in Somalia.

The 19-year-old Navy seaman is serving in Somalia as a boatswain's mate aboard the tank landing ship, USS Cayuga. Jackson is a graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ PFC. RODNEY A. GRAY, son of Nellie O. Gray of Vinton, recently graduated from the Marine Corps Basic Combat Engineer Course. Gray is a 1991 graduate of Staunton River High School.
