HOKIES WALK PLANK IN LOSS TO PIRATES

East Carolina pitcher Johnny Beck struck out five and tossed a seven-hitter for 8 innings to lead the Pirates (9-3) to a 9-3 victory over Virginia Tech in a non-conference college baseball game Saturday in Greenville, S.C.

Beck (4-0) walked only one Tech batter and shut out the Hokies in the first eight innings.

Brian Fitzgerald took the loss for the Hokies (0-4), allowing seven runs in five innings of work. Bo Durkac led Tech at the plate with three hits in four trips, including a double.

In other baseball:

A baseball doubleheader scheduled today between Virginia and Seton Hall has been canceled because of wet field conditions in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers' next game is against William and Mary on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at UVa field.
