SALEM MAN CHARGED IN THREATS

A 37-year-old Salem man was charged with attempted second-degree murder after allegedly threatening to kill a Roanoke police officer early Sunday, according to city police.

Donald Glenn Law is accused of displaying a revolver to a security guard at Omirrs International cocktail lounge and deli at 1731 Melrose Ave. N.W. about 12:50 a.m.

Police officer C.C. Perkins stopped Law as he rode west on a bicycle on Melrose Avenue at Forest Park Boulevard and asked if he was carrying a gun. Law became verbally abusive and reached into his pocket, police said. Perkins grabbed Law's hand, a small-caliber handgun dropped to the ground, and a struggle ensued.

Law was also charged with brandishing a firearm. He was being held Monday in Roanoke City Jail.
