MAN'S BODY FOUND IN APARTMENT HOUSE

Roanoke police found the decomposed body of a 42-year-old man in an apartment house at 406 Elm Ave. on Friday afternoon. Neighbors called police after they noticed a stench coming from the victim's first-floor apartment.

Police found the victim, Richard E. Jackson, lying on the floor, with a slash mark on his left wrist. A knife was found nearby, and blood was found throughout the apartment. A medical examiner's report is pending, but no foul play is suspected in the man's death at this time, according to police.

Inez Bond, who lived across the hall from the victim, said she last saw Jackson on March 13, when he asked her for some money.
