EX-HOKIE HIRED AT MCNEESE STATE

McNeese State has chosen Ron Everhart, an assistant coach at Tulane, as its head basketball coach.

Everhart is a former player at Virginia Tech. He will start immediately at the Lake Charles, La., school, even though Tulane is playing in the National Invitation Tournament.

Steve Welch resigned two weeks ago as coach at McNeese. His record was 75-121 in seven years.

Eight overtimes in the championship game of the Class AAAA girls' state basketball championship set a national record for five-on-five girls play, the Arkansas Activities Association says. Fayetteville defeated Mountain Home 75-73 on March 12 to win its second consecutive title.

The score was 48-48 at the end of regulation. The overtime periods ended tied at 53, 59, 61, 65, 69, 71 and 73.
