SEVERAL HEARINGS PLANNED|

Giles County Greenway Project planners will conduct three public information sessions on different nights throughout the county:

April 11, at 7:00 p.m. at Giles County High School, specifically to serve the Pearisburg area

April 12, at 7:00 p.m. at Eastern Elementary School, to serve the Newport and Pembroke areas, and

April 18, at 7:00 p.m. at Narrows High School, to serve Narrows, Rich Creek and Glen Lyn.

National Committee for the New River staff volunteer Jeff Rice says the April sessions will be the first of several planned to introduce Giles Countians to the overall greenway concept and specific plans for parks and trails. The sessions are also designed to gather input on both the project and local residents' hopes for the county's economic future.

The project was designed to suggest alternatives for future economic development within the county, Rice said, with the incentive coming from county residents themselves. Public input at these meetings is not only strongly encouraged, but necessary for the project's future, he said.
