BECKY SUE MABES, daughter of Don and Jean Mabes of Salem, earned a master's degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She is now employed by the Children's Center in Salem.

LAURIE ANN CHOCKLETT, daughter of Robert and Betty Chocklett of Roanoke County, received a master of science degree in physical therapy from Medical College of Virginia -Virginia Commonwealth University.

Chocklett is a staff physical therapist in acute care at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

THE COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES presented awards to the following area residents at its recent academic and clinical achievement awards commencement: John P. Ayling of Roanoke, Henry J. Powell Award for clinical excellence in paramedic education; John "Jack" Cline Garber Jr., Roanoke, Thompson N. Berdeen Award for academic excellence in the emergency health sciences -paramedic program; Kimberly Charlene Bare, Roanoke, academic excellence in health Information management; Arlene W. ROBIN DAWN FORD of Roanoke received a bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

THE VINTON DOGWOOD CHARTER CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN BUSINESS WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION recently presented scholarships to six women. A total of $8,200 was given to: Cecelia Fitzgerald at Virginia Tech, Yolanda Chapman at Virginia Commonwealth University, Carmen Price at Bridgewater College, Grace Nofsinger at Virginia Western Community College, Heather Cormany at Roanoke College and Andrea Herron at Emory and Henry University.

JAMES ANDRES PAULEY of Danville and ELIZABETH MacGREGOR NORDT of Salem were named to the dean's list at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.

ANNA T. FOSTER of Roanoke, has been awarded a $500 academic scholarship by the National Society of Public Accountants Scholarship Foundation. Foster will be completing her sophomore year at National Business College this year.

THE ROANOKE REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY recently awarded five $2,000 scholarships to several residents. SARAH LOUANNE FLORY, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Randall K. Flory of Roanoke, has received the Centennial Commonwealth Citizenship Award from Randolph-Macon Woman's College, which she will attend this fall. She is a graduate of Northside High School.

TODD JASON LANGE, son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Lange of Roanoke, was among 11 students from Hampden-Sydney College who recently completed a three-week study tour of Eastern Europe with particular emphasis on the Czech Republic.

The group traveled to Budapest, Hungary; Cracow, Poland; and Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic.

MARY BETH VENTURA of Roanoke has been placed on the Founder's Day List at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., by earning recognition for academic achievement during the second semester.
