DAN RIVER ENDS A LONG DROUGHT

Sara Bass hit a shot at the buzzer to give Dan River a 42-41 decision over Laurel Park on Tuesday night, the Wildcats' first victory since 1992.

Teri Gunter scored 16 points as Dan River rallied in the final quarter for the Piedmont District victory over the Lancers. Laurel Park was led by Brandy Martin with 14 points and Isis Paddyfote with 12.

In other games Tuesday night:

Rural Retreat 60, John Battle 42: In Bristol, the Indians outscored the Trojans 35-21 in the second half to break open a close game and go on to the easy Hogoheegee District victory.

Auburn 73, Bland 16: In Riner, the Eagles (4-2) made six of seven 3-point shots and 32 of 50 overall from the field as they flew past the Rockets.
