VA. BOARD OKS FUNDS TO WIDEN U.S. 58 SECTION

The widening of 3.3 miles of U.S. 58 in Henry County was among $8.8 million in contracts awarded in the Salem district by the state Transportation Board at its December meeting.

The Henry County project was the largest approved in the district. Two bridges are included in the $5.2 million project awarded to Yates Construction Co. Inc. of Stokesville, N.C.

Two projects were contracted in Bedford County: the Virginia 43 bridge over the Big Otter River and widening of Virginia 757 between Virginia 616 and Virginia 608.

The $500,000 widening project was awarded to A.R. Coffey & Sons of Buchanan.

Other contracts were awarded for projects in Montgomery, Pulaski, Roanoke, Botetourt, Floyd and Carroll counties.

Statewide, the board awarded 47 contracts totaling more than $48 million.
