A LITTLE COLDER AND TWICE AS WET

All that teeth-chattering we did during the cold wave didn't amount to much: Sure, January was colder than usual, but not that much colder.

"It's not even in the top 10 coldest Januarys we've had," Mike Gillen in the National Weather Service's Roanoke office. "Even though we had a cold period, it didn't average out to be that much."

Still, Roanoke set three low-temperature records in January. And the -6 on Jan. 19 stands as the fourth-lowest temperature in Roanoke history.
