JOHN BROWN EXHIBIT OPENS AT MUSEUM

The Harrison Museum of African American Culture in Roanoke will open "Jacob Lawrence: The John Brown Serigraphs" on Friday at 6 p.m. The exhibit opening coincides with the Harrison Museum Gift Shop and Bookstore grand opening.

The John Brown Series consists of 22 panels showing John Brown's fight against slavery until his death. Lawrence is the first painter to address John Brown from a black perspective. The exhibit is made possible by the National Afro-American Museum in Wilberforce, Ohio, and will run through March 28.

The museum's gift shop has books for children and adults, items from Kenya and Egypt, museum logo items, Henry Street Festival memorabilia and gift certificates.

The Harrison Museum at 523 Harrison Ave. N.W. is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. til 5 p.m. (til 9 p.m. on the first Friday of each month), and from 1 until 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
