SPEAKER, MOTHER OF 8 TALKS ABOUT TEEN SEX

Molly Kelly will speak on SAFE SEX VS SAVED SEX, What should we be telling our teens? Saturday, Feb. 26, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1740 Tyler Road, just outside Radford city limits.

The seminar, for seventh through ninth graders and their parents, is $3 per person. The luncheon following the program at 1 p.m. is an additional $2.

Kelly, a mother of eight children, speaks to thousands of teens each year. She will offer a "practical, humorous approach to chastity."

The LENTEN SEASON comprises the 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter, which falls on April 3 this year. However, the 40 days do not include the six Sundays during that period.

As Advent is a time for Christians to prepare for the celebration of Christ's birth, Lent is a season to prepare for His crucifixion and resurrection.

RADFORD/FLOYD CLUSTER UNITED METHODIST CHURCHES will sponsor Sunday evening Lenten services at various churches in the cluster:

Feb. 27, 7 p.m., Falling Branch United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lyle Morton. Music by the Auburn United Methodist Church choir.

The Lenten Concert-Worship series at CHRISTIANSBURG PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 107 W. Main St., is in its 16th year. The Rev. Vernon Miller, the church's pastor, will present a series of meditations, "The Many Sides of the Cross." A light meal will be offered in the fellowship hall. Concerts and devotionals will be held in the sanctuary. Donations are welcome to help defray meal expenses. Here's the schedule for February and early March:

Wednesday: Supper, 6:15 p.m., concert, 7 p.m., Willing Workers Gospel Choir. Worship, 7:30 p.m.

A seven-week long celebration of the love of God will continue at BLACKSBURG CHRISTIAN CHURCH (Disciples of Christ), 240 Watson Ave., across from Gilbert Linkous Elementary School.

The Rev. Johnny Loughridge will deliver a series of sermons based on themes from Mark, John and Matthew. Sunday services begin at 11 a.m.

Share lunch and Christian devotion Fridays at noon, as various Christiansburg congregations take turns serving as hosts of community worship, built around the theme "Put on the armor God Gives!" an exhortation from Paul. The Christiansburg Ministerial Association sponsors the series, which continues Friday at Asbury United Methodist Church, Stuart and Chapel streets.

On Mar. 4, "The Good News of Peace" will be the message at the Christiansburg Church of the Brethren, 310 S. Franklin St.

On Mar. 11, the theme will be "Faith" at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, E. Main and Roanoke streets, Christiansburg.

Five congregations representing four denominations in Blacksburg will hold their annual series of Wednesday night Lenten programs along the theme "What Unites Us - What Divides Us."

Programs start at 6 with a meal served by the host church. The message and discussion follow at 6:45. The programs will adjourn by 7:25 p.m.

The series opens Wednesday with Bishop Walter F. Sullivan of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond speaking at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Mar. 2, Edith F. Patton of the Presbytery of the Peaks will speak at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church.

Mar. 9, Bishop Richard Bansemer of the Virginia Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will speak at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church.

Child care will be provided for those through elementary school age.

In Pulaski, CHRIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH will sponsor five Wednesday night community programs with a theme of ``Save the Children.'' Each program begins with potluck meal at 6 at the church followed by a message and discussion ending by 7:30.

Wednesday, the Rev. Duane Steele, pastor of Gladesboro Lutheran Church, Hillsville, will offer music to highlight the theme. Trinity Lutheran Church of Pulaski will join the Episcopalians in this program by the blind musician.

Mar. 2, Dr. William Asbury, Pulaski schools superintendent, will speak.

Mar. 9, the Rev. Terri Gregory , coordinator of community relations for Pulaski County and the pastor of Bishop's Chapel and Glenwood United Methodist Churches in Carroll County will discuss youth at risk and some ways communities can help.

The Happy Hearts will sing at Grace Assembly, 2030 Redwood Drive, Christiansburg, tonight at 7. This concert, originally set for last week, had to be postponed because of the ice storm. Call Pastor Bob Goldstein, 381-0055, for more information.

The Belmont Christian bodybuilders youth group will sponsor a SOUP AND SANDWICH SUPPERo Saturday, 5-8 p.m., at the church fellowship hall on Dominion Drive, a mile from the Division of Motor Vehicles office on Peppers Ferry Road. Donations will be accepted.

The group is raising money to attend the Southern Christian Youth Convention in July.

An ALCOHOL RISK REDUCTION WORKSHOP will be held Feb. 28, 7 p.m., at Straight Street, 300 N. Franklin St., Christiansburg.

The free, three-hour workshop will be presented by Kevin English, a crime prevention and community resource officer with the Virginia Tech Police Department.

The BREAD FOR LIFE program, sponsored by the Presbyterian, Methodist, Episcopalian, Roman Catholic and Baptist student groups and the university's honors program is a series of Monday lunch-hour forums will focus on justice. All forums start at noon; here's the February schedule:

Reggie Remple, a hearing impaired evangelist, will preach at GETHSEMANE BAPTIST CHURCHo, Radford, next Friday through Sunday. All services start at 7 p.m., and will be interpreted for the hearing and hearing impaired.

Special activities will start at 2 p.m. Saturday, followed by a potluck supper at 5 p.m. Remple will preach at Sunday school, morning worship and evening worship services.
