BOBBITT SHOULD BE RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL, DOCTORS SAY

All the doctors who examined Lorena Bobbitt since her trial for cutting off her husband's penis recommended she be released from a mental hospital, her lawyer said Thursday.

"This is what we expected," attorney James Lowe said.

Reports from state psychiatrists and psychologists recommend that she receive outpatient mental health treatment, Lowe said.

Prince William Circuit Judge Herman A. Whisenant Jr. will rule Monday whether to release Bobbitt from Central State Hospital, where she has been since her acquittal by reason of insanity last month.

Whisenant could free her, return her to the hospital or free her conditionally.

Whisenant will review the doctors' recommendations and could outline a treatment plan for Bobbitt on Monday, lawyers said.

At her malicious-wounding trial, Bobbitt's lawyers said domestic abuse left her temporarily insane.
