EX-SENATOR RAPS NORTH AT MILLER EVENT

A former U.S. senator told reporters at a fund-raising dinner for senatorial candidate Jim Miller that many former Ronald Reagan associates resent Miller's opponent, Oliver North, for his involvement in the Iran-Contra affair.

"I didn't particularly appreciate it," said Paul Laxalt, a former Nevada governor and U.S. senator who lives in Northern Virginia.

Laxalt, one of former President Reagan's closest friends, spoke Wednesday night to a gathering of 75 business and civic leaders who paid as much as $1,000 each to attend a fund-raiser for Miller.

North, a central figure in the Iran-Contra controversy, has admitted lying to congressional investigators but said he did not do so under oath.
