JAMES BAKER PONDERS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT

Former Secretary of State James Baker is "thinking long and hard" about a run for the presidency in 1996.

"While I haven't decided I'm going to run, I haven't decided I'm not going to run," Baker said in Sunday's Houston Post. "I have to decide if that's what I want to do with a good portion of the rest of my life."

Baker, who turns 64 this month, served in key positions in the Ford, Reagan and Bush administrations, including a stint as Secretary of State under Bush.

He recently has begun to criticize President Clinton on foreign policy, crime, health care and the economy. He also has started traveling the country to help Republican candidates raise money.
