Jeff White pitched a one-hitter and was 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored as Narrows (5-1, 1-0) blanked Fort Chiswell 10-0 in the Mountain Empire District baseball opener for both teams in Fort Chiswell. The Pioneers are 2-2, 0-1.

Rockbridge County (4-4) gave up six unearned runs en route to a 9-3 loss to E.C. Glass (4-4) in a non-district game in Lexington. Gary Tyree was 3-for-4 to lead the Wildcats.

Patrick Henry's Jamie Price won the 100 meters and 200 meters at the Volunteer Track and Field Classic at the University of Tennessee.

William Fleming's Dominick Milner placed first in the long jump with a leap of 23-3 and was sixth in the 400 (50.44). The Colonels John St. Clair was third in the discus with a throw of 153-6.
