LAWHORN ROLLS TO VICTORY IN FRANKLIN COUNTY FEATURE

Dudley Lawhorn and Kenny Wagner are running quite a race of their own at Franklin County Speedway this season. So far, the rest of the Late Model Stock field has been racing for third place.

For the second consecutive week, Lawhorn and Wagner qualified with identical times - to the hundredth of a second. This time, however, Lawhorn took the lead on the first turn, held it for the balance of the race and rolled to victory Saturday night in the 100-lap feature of the Pizza Hut 300.

"The car done fine," said points leader Lawhorn, who took a 2-1 lead over Wagner in victories this season. There was only one caution period during the race, but when racing resumed, Lawhorn picked up where he left off.

"It took about four laps for the tires to come back," Lawhorn said. "But once they did, I was fine."

Wagner finished second, one spot ahead of Harvey Harrison, from Renick, W.Va. Carl Dadian and Rodney Cundiff placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

In other races at the track Saturday night:

Pole-sitter Steve Lam ran away from the field in the Mini Stock division, earning his first victory of the year and moving into first place in the points race. Newcomer Ray Turman and Damien Wilson placed second and third, respectively.

In the Street Stock competition, points leader Mike Dudley won for the second time this season. Dale Marlowe and Phillip VanDerVeer, involved in their second collision this year early in the race, came back to finish 2-3.

Red Hartman led from flag to flag in the Pure Stock race, rolling to his second victory of the year. Leon Moles of Willis nipped former track champion Mike Owens in a photo finish for second.

Travis Sharpe won the Rookie race, becoming one of the youngest winners in FCS history. Sharpe, 13, drove about six races last season.

James Hunt and Neal Amos placed second and third, respectively.

Eric Janney was the Any Car winner. Ronald Sowers placed second, and Ernest Hylton - last week's winner - finished third.

FCS will move its starting time back an hour to 7 p.m. on Saturday.
