ALTIZER, William W., (``Ike''), 79, of Roanoke, died Monday, April 18, 1994, at a local hospital. He was a member of Villa Heights Baptist Church and a retired conductor from the Norfolk & Western Railway with 40 years service. Surviving are his wife, Josephine Scott Altizer; a daughter and son-in-law, Billie and Tom Reid, Roanoke; sons and daughters-in-law, Reggie and Cyndy Altizer, Boones Mill, Ronnie and Kathy Altizer, Wirtz, Jerry and Patty Altizer, Salem; four grandchildren, Sharianne Cleveland, Jennifer Altizer, Ryan Altizer, Allyson Altizer; one great-grandchild, Annelle Cleveland. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 1994, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Harold C. Lewis and the Rev. J. Landon Maddex officiating. ATKINSON, Bessie Graves, 96, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, April 19, 1994. She was the widow of Leon Atkinson Sr. and a member of First Presbyterian Church and the D.A.R. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Kathleen Atkinson; daughter, Lois Atkinson McCoy; sister, Mrs. Myrtle Bowles, all of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Judy LaPrade, Teddy R. Rountree, Robert K. Atkinson, Matthew W. Atkinson, all of Roanoke; William T. Atkinson, Marietta, Ga.; and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the grave in Fair View Cemetery, 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. The family suggests memorials be made to your favorite charity. BOLSTER, Herman A., 84, of Roanoke, passed away Monday evening, April 18, 1994. He was a graduate of Pratt Institute (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with degrees in chemical engineering, and was a chemist with American Viscose. Mr. Bolster was the founder and operator of Bolster's Poultry Farm in Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Eliza Kennedy Bolster; two brothers, and a sister. Surviving are his wife, Leonora Trout Bolster; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Mel Davidson, Bellingham, Wash.; four sons and three daughters-in-law, David A. and Suzanne Bolster, Durham, N.C., William H. and Laura Bolster, Roanoke, Hugh T. and Caroline Bolster, Beaufort, S.C., Herman K. Bolster, Virginia Beach, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside, Cocke Family Cemetery at 2 p.m. Thursda y with the Rev. BREON, Calvin S., 70, of West Main St, Rebersburg, Pa., died Monday, April 18, 1994, at the Center Community Hospital, State College, Pa. He was born January 26, 1923 in Coburn, Pa. He was the late son of Calvin B. and Nora Steiger Breon. Mr. Breon was first married to Cleora Heckman, who died in 1965. He then married Barbara M. Brown Breon who survives. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and C. Gene Haugh, Blacksburg, Va.; stepchildren, Candice Wert, Center Hall, Pa., Melody Wright, Littleton, Colo., Melissa Stover, Warrenton, Va., and Michael Breon, Millheim, Pa.; two brothers, LeRoy Breon, Lewisburg, Pa., Guy Breon, Millheim, Pa.; three grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-granddaughter. CARROLL, Robert Patrick, 90, of Mars Hill, N.C., died Monday, April 18, 1994, at the Madison Manor Nursing Center in Mars Hill. Colonel Carroll was born in Alvin, Texas, on May 27, 1903. His family moved to Winfall, Va., in Campbell Co., where he was raised and e ducated. He received a Bachelor of Science and a Master's degree from the University of Virginia. He taught two years in the Biology Department of Washington and Lee University, then for 40 years taught at the Virginia Military Institute's Department of Biology and Pre-Medical studies. Upon his retirement from VMI in 1968, Colonel and Mrs. Carroll lived in Millboro, in Bath Co., Va. His wife, Alice Robertson Carroll, died in 1969. In 1984 he moved to Macogdoches, Texas and lived with his son. In 1986 he became a patient at Bay View Nursing Center in Beaufort, S.C. and in 1991 moved to the Madison Manor Nursing Center in Mars Hill. Colonel Carroll is survived by three children, a daughter, Alice Carroll Wykoff, Mars Hill, N.C.; a son, Dr. Robert P. Carroll Jr., Nacogdoches, Texas; and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Carroll Weaver, Lake of the Woods, Orange Co., Va.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery in Lexington at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, by the Rev. D. Holmes Irving. V.M.I. Cadets will act as pallbearers. FALLS, Harold Francis, (``Retired Sgt. ``MAC""), 67, of Bedford, died Monday, April 18, 1994 in a Roanoke hospital. He was born in Botetourt County on August 4, 1926, a son of the late Herman Lee Falls and Berta Fitzgerald Falls. He served the Virginia State Police for 30 years, 23 of which were in Scott County and as Sergeant in Bedford and Franklin Counties for seven years, preceding his retirement in 1983. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and a member of the Main Street United Methodist Mens Club. He was a Master Mason in Liberty Lodge #95. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James C. Falls. He is survived by his wife, Sara Jacqueline ``Jackie"" Falls; three sons, David L. Falls, Greensboro, N. C., Danny A. Falls, Gate City, Harold Brian Falls, Ft. Walton, Fla.; one daughter, Judith Falls Love, Charlotte, N. C.; one brother, Robert W. ``Bobby"" Falls, Buchanan; one sister, Geraldine Falls Vines, Hampton; four grandchildren. KESLER, Frank Lee, 56, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Salem, passed away Monday, APril 18, 1994. He was employed by Walt Disney World for over 23 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Martin Kesler. OBENCHAIN, Lynda Kay Palmer, 46, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, April 18, 1994, at her home, after a lengthy illness. She was born September 25, 1947, at West Point, N.Y. She was a former employee of C&P Telephone. Mrs. Obenchain was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred M. Palmer, and her father, Homer B. Palmer. POE, Dr. William Dunlap, 75, of Brandon Oaks, Roanoke, was called to his eternal home on Monday, April 18, 1994. he was the son of the late Reverend Doctor and Mrs. E. D. Poe, grew up in the old Southeast section of Roanoke, attended Jefferson High School and Wake Forest University. He founded the Roanoke Valley Medical Clinic in 1954. He was also preceded in death by his brother, E. D. Poe Jr. and his sister, Nancy Poe. He was married for 42 years to June Plunkett Poe, who survives. In addition, he is survived by five children; three children-in-law; and three grandchildren; two daughters and one son-in-law, Martha Elizabeth Poe, El Paso, Texas, and Nancy Trantham P. and Kenneth Martin Wingfield; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas Simmons and Martha Rollins Poe, Raleigh, N. C., John Dunlap Poe, Roanoke, William Dunlap Jr. and Stephanie M. Poe of Incirlik Air Force Base, Adana, Turkey and their three children, Katrina Cooper, Matthew William and Luke Thomas; two special friends, Rebeca and Ernesto Olmedo, Daleville; a sister-in-law, Jean Watts Poe, Baltimore, Md.; and three nephews and their families. Doctor Poe had a varied career. He served in the U. S. Army at the end of the Second World War. After leaving private practice in 1966, he was employed at the University of North Carolina and at Duke University. He was among the few physicians of his generation to specialize in the care of the elderly and chronically ill. From 1978 to 1984, he was employed in his specialty of geriatric medicine at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem, Va. Dr. Poe was a former trustee of Wake Forest University, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the author of ``The Old Person in Your Home"", published by Scribners, co-author of ``Drugs and The Aged"", published by McGraw Hill, author of some thirty articles in medical journals, a deacon and Sunday School teacher, a member of a number of professional societies and philanthropic organizations. Always, his principal loyalty was to his work, his church, and to his family. A private family graveside service will be at Evergreen Burial Park Friday, followed by a memorial celebration for his friends and family at the First Baptist Church at 12 noon, with Dr. Charles Fuller officiating, and the Rev. Charles Easley assisting. Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends at a reception held at Brandon Oaks, 3804 Brandon Ave. S. W. Dr. Poe requested that people who care to attend, come and rejoice in his homegoing, but plant flowers - not send them - and memorials may be given to the Elias Dodson and Nan Trantham Poe Scholarship, the Divinity School, Wake Forest University, P. O. Box 7227, Winston-Salem, N. C. 27109, which he established in memory of his parents. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

PURCELL, David Alexander, Sr., 89, of 219 Mebane St., Eden, N.C. died Monday, April 18, 1994, at his home. He was born in Rockingham County, N.C. and was a member of Leaksville United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of N. C. State where he was a member of Phi Psi, National Textile Fraternity and a former member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. He was retired as the Vice President of Towel Division of Fieldcrest Mills. He was the past president of Southern Textile Association, a member of Eden Rotary Club, past Board of Directors for First National Bank of Martinsville, past trustee of Leaksville United Methodist Church and Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry Co., former trustee for Ferrum College, and p ast Commissioner of Finance for the Town of Draper. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Holstein Purcell, home; sons, Jerry Purcell, Rockingham, N.C., and David A. ""Alec"" Purcell, Jr., Mercer Island, Wash.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Ernest Purcell. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. SHEPPE, Peggy Marlowe, 68, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 1994. She was a charter member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Surviving are her husband, George B. STURGILL, Earl, 67, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, April 18, 1994 at his home. He recently retired from the Engineering Department of the City of Roanoke. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Salem. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a native of Norton, Virginia. Surviving are his wife, Theodora (Teddy) Sturgill; sons, Mark Sturgill, Big Stone Gap, Randy Sturgill, Todd Sturgill, both of Nashville, Tennessee; daughters, Laura McAfee, Big Stone Gap, Cynthia Mays, Knoxville, Tennessee; nine grandchildren; brothers, Carl Sturgill, Pittsburgh, Pa, Bob Sturgill, Leesburg, Va.; sister, Loretta Mann, Roanoke; stepson, Tim P ersinger of Roanoke; stepdaughter, Cindy Duffy, of Columbiana, Ohio; one stepgranddaughter; a number of nieces and nephews. ZEIGLER, Lettie Ayers Goad, 86, of Hillsville, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 1994 at her residence. She was born September 14, 1907 in Carroll County, the daughter of the late William Booker and Susie Elizabeth Bond Ayers. She was preceded in death by her husbands, George M. Goad and James Zeigler. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lester and Opelia Goad-Navarre, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Edna and Brooks Montgomery, Hillsville; brother, Arnold Ayers, Hillsville; sister, Ethel Vass, Hillsville; daughter-in-law, Juanita Goad, Canton, Ohio; stepdaughter, Hope Parrish, Baltimore, Md.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; four stepgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 1994 at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville. Interment will follow in the Webb and Skyview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm Wednesday, at the Vaughan-Guynn -McGrady Chapel.

ZEIGLER, Lettie Ayers Goad, 86, of Hillsville, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 1994 at her residence. Born September 14, 1907 in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late William Booker and Susie Elizabeth Bond Ayers. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Lester and Ophelia Goad, Navarre, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Edna and Brooks Montgomery, Hillsville; brother, Arnold Ayers, Hillsville; sister, Ethel Vass, Hillsville; daughter-in-law, Juanita Goad, Canton, Ohio; stepdaughter, Hope Parrish, Baltimore Md.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; four stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, George M. Goad and James Zeigler. Funeral services 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 1994 at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville.
