U.S. PLAYING MOLDOVA TODAY

The United States' World Cup soccer team plays Moldova tonight in an exhibition game at Davidson, N.C. U.S. coaches must pare the roster to 22 by the June 3 deadline.

Expected to start are goalkeeper Tony Meola, University of Virginia midfielder Claudio Reyna, midfielder-forward Frank Klopas, and midfielders Brian Quinn and Mike Burns. Defender Alexi Lalas won't play because of a one-game suspension after his ejection from Saturday night's game.

In Paris, soccer great Pele became the first athlete to be appointed a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. Pele said his mission was one of "peace and prosperity." Federico Mayor, director general of UNESCO, presented Pele with a U.N. travel document that he will use on his goodwill tours.
