4-mile run to benefit marrow donor center

The seventh annual Shenendoah Life/Musselwhite and Associates four-mile run is set for May 14 at 9 a.m.

The course will begin at the Shenendoah Life Insurance Co., 2301 Brambleton Ave. S.W., and continue out Brambleton Avenue to the old Roanoke County Administration Building and back.

Proceeds from the race will benefit the Marrow Donor Center of Virginia.

Trophies will be awarded to the top four male and female finishers, and medals will be awarded to the top four winners, male and female, in each of 13 age categories. Each runner will also receive a T-shirt.

The race will include the fifth annual "Media Challenge" with local print, radio and television personalities competing for the best combined team score.

Runners will be eligible for a number of door prizes at the after-race party, including a grand prize of a Caribbean cruise for two. Runners must be present at the party to win.

Entry forms are available at sporting good stores and athletic clubs, or by calling Donna Musselwhite at 985-4441, or Larry Musselwhite at 989-4531. The entry fee is $12 until May 6, and $15 after. The race is limited to 750 runners.

Volunteers needed for Area 8 Special Olympics

Volunteers are needed for three Virginia Area 8 Special Olympic events.

The events include: a bowling competition at Viking Lanes on April 22; an aquatic competition at North Cross School's Carter Athletic Center on April 30; and a track and field competition at William Byrd High School on May 6. All events take place at 1 p.m.

Volunteers will assist with games and tournament operation and serve as buddies for the athletes.
