STERN WINS LIBERTARIAN NOD FOR N.Y. GOVERNOR

The Libertarian Party overwhelmingly gave its gubernatorial nomination Saturday to radio shock jock Howard Stern.

Stern said the nomination of the tiny party, dedicated to less government and more personal freedom, would give his campaign "an air of legitimacy."

Stern, whose campaign has been grist for his weekday morning radio show for the past month, has pledged to resign the governorship as soon as his platform is in place. It's simple: He wants the death penalty restored and wants highway tie-ups reduced, in part by having major roadwork done at night. - Associated Press
