VAN PELT SETS RADFORD MARK

Radford scored 23 runs and rapped 24 hits in two games, and senior first baseman Denny Van Pelt broke the school's career home runs record, but the Highlanders managed only a doubleheader split with Virginia Intermont on Tuesday in college baseball at Dedmon Center Park.

After routing the NAIA Cobras 17-1 in the first game, the Highlanders gave up 17 hits and committed three errors in losing the second game 13-6. Radford (24-19) took advantage of 10 Intermont walks and got home runs from Alex Vaxmonsky, Brian Pardue and Roanoke's Kelly Dampeer in the opener.
