ROANOKE VALLEY ECONOMIC INDICATIORS

Homes sales in the Roanoke Valley fell in April compared with a month and a year ago. The Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors reported Monday that 405 houses in the valley were placed under sales contracts last month. That compares with 482 in April and 490 a year ago.

But Tim Garrison, president of the association, said "the summer selling season is off to a great start." He said that total contracts for the first four months of 1994 are 3 percent over the same period last year because of low interest rates and a good mix of housing styles and price ranges.
