Paula Abdul filed for divorce Tuesday from actor Emilio Estevez.

"It's with tremendous reluctance and great sadness that I've taken this action," Abdul, 31, said in a statement.

"Although our marriage did not work out, I have great affection and both personal and professional respect for Emilio. I know that we'll continue to be supportive of each other in the future and that our friendship will go on."

Estevez, 32, who has been married to the entertainer for two years, had no comment.

It was the first marriage for each.

\ David Letterman packed up his nighttime talk show and took it out West, transforming Hollywood into "Davewood."

The No. 1-rated show came to Los Angeles on Monday for a week's stint far from the wisecracking host's New York City home, the Ed Sullivan Theater.

"How we doing?" Letterman asked bandleader Paul Shaffer.

"Very nicely, in a laid-back L.A. way," Shaffer replied.

"I think we could do the show here," Letterman said from a CBS Television City studio set that includes a swimming pool, palm trees and city skyline. "All we have to do is bust a lease."

Letterman brought former late-night king Johnny Carson back to TV, briefly. Carson made a cameo appearance Monday in a filmed comic bit that featured Letterman and Shaffer on the town.

Besides popping up at landmarks like the La Brea Tar Pits, the mischievous duo was seen supposedly altering the Hollywood sign to read "Davewood."

Among Letterman's Top 10 reasons why the "Late Show" should move to Los Angeles was: "Madonna is in New York."

\ Seems if you call yourself an "outlaw," you may be treated like one. Willie Nelson, no stranger to the IRS, was found sleeping in the back seat of his Mercedes-Benz in Hewitt, Texas, early Tuesday and arrested on a misdemeanor drug charge.

"I can't give you the details of the case," said a police officer in Hewitt, 5 miles south of Waco. "We found less than 2 ounces of marijuana in the car. It was both bag and rolled cigarettes."

The country singer, 61, was arrested about 9 a.m. and taken to jail. He was gone by late morning.
