8TH-INNING HRS PROPEL BUCS 4-2

Jeff Conger and Jake Austin each hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to lift the Salem Buccaneers to a 4-2 victory over the Durham Bulls in a Carolina League baseball game Tuesday night at Durham Athletic Park.

Conger deposited the second pitch from Bulls reliever John Simmons over the right-field wall to lead off the eighth. Matt Byrd came in to retire the next two batters, but then gave up Austin's homer on a 2-0 pitch. The drive landed near the spot where Conger's blast hit the ground.

Matt Ruebel pitched two innings of scoreless relief to gain the victory. Marc Pisciotta recorded the save by retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth.

Salem scored twice in the second inning on an RBI double by Chance Sanford and a run-scoring groundout by Danny Clyburn.

Durham got a run back in the second on Juan Williams' double. Damon Hollins, who had three of Durham's seven hits, tied it with a solo homer in the sixth.
