4 VICTORIES IN ROW FOR CUNDIFF AT FCS

Rodney Cundiff and his Ford Thunderbird made it four in a row at Franklin County Speedway on Saturday night. He immediately set his sights on the track record of six consecutive wins.

Cundiff took the checkered flag in the 100-lap Late Model Stock Car feature of the Ropho Sales 300.

"All I can say is that we're hotter than an old rooster in a hen house," Cundiff said.

FCS promoter Whitey Taylor announced that a $1,000 bounty will be paid next week if a General Motors or Dodge product can break Cundiff's stranglehold.

Cundiff, pole-sitter two of the previous three weeks, started fifth Saturday but moved to the front on lap 25. From then on, the race was for second.

Points leader Dudley Lawhorn returned from an early collision with Frankie Pennington to place second, one spot ahead of Ronnie Newman. Randy Arrington and Kenny Minter placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

"It's not that I'm running so much better than these guys," Cundiff said. "But they've been getting in a battle for second, and that gives me some breathing room."

Cundiff's crew has yet to paint his Thunderbird this season. "I don't think I really want to paint it," Cundiff said.

A seven-car pile-up on lap 4 delayed action for 20 minutes. Carl Dadian, who started on the pole for the second time this season, developed problems on lap 21 and faded to 14th.

In other races Saturday night:

Mini Stock points leader Steve Lam weaved his way through a crowded track, posting his fifth victory in seven starts. Sonny Arrington was second and Chris Martin took third when Gary Joyce spun out on the final lap.

Rocky Mount's Mike Elkins led all the way in the Street Stock contest, coasting to his first win and collecting a $200 bounty put up by the track on points leader Mike Dudley. Leon Dalton and Lonnie Foley finished second and third, respectively.

Jay Peery won for the second time this season in the Pure Stock division. Mike Owens and Red Hartman finished second and third, respectively.

Chad Hodges was the Rookie race winner, besting Travis Sharpe (second) and Dennis Sloan (third).
