BARNARD, Helen Elizabeth Wright, 79, of Greenville, S.C., died Friday, June 10, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Gordon Barnard. She was born November 6, 1914 in Christiansburg and lived in Roanoke for many years before moving to Hollywood, Fla. She was a former member of Ghent Bretheren Church in Roanoke. She is survived by four sons, Lowell Gordon Barnard, Frederick Taylor Barnard, Steven Douglas Barnard, all of Hollywood, Fla., Joseph Michael Barnard of Greenville, S.C.; two daughters, Suzanne Barnard Kirby of Hollywood, Fla., Sarah Barnard Barksdale of Greenville, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be Monday, June 13 in Hollywood, Fla. Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, Fla. is in charge of arrangements.

BURKE, Hubert Carson, 72, of Wytheville, died Friday, June 10, 1994. Funeral 1 p.m. Sunday, Gillman Funeral Chapel, Wytheville.

CHEEK, William Woodford Sr., 56, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, June 11, 1994, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born September 3, 1937, in Rhodell, W.Va., a son of the late Wesley Woodford Cheek and Emma Cheek Cheek. He was an employee of Rubatex Corp., was a member of the Elks B. P. O. E. #321, Lynchburg, the Bedford Moose Lodge #1897, and was a member of the Wilsons United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Barbara McDaniel Cheek; two sons and daughter-in-law, William W. Cheek Jr., Jeffrey T. and Rhonda R. Cheek, all of Bedford; a daughter, Terri M. Cheek, Roanoke; two sisters, Mrs. V. G. (Rebecca) Smith, Newport News, Margie Gurley, Hampton; a granddaughter, Stephanie M. Cheek; a grandson, Trevor A. Cheek, both of Bedford. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 13, 1994, at 1 p.m., from the Updike Fun eral Chapel, Bedford, by the Rev. John C. Mitchell. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will begin after 2 p.m. Sunday, and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.

CREASEY, Anna Josephine Blackwell, 72, of Christiansburg, died suddenly Friday, June 10, 1994 in the Radford Community Hospital. The daughter of the late William and Ida Martin Blackwell, she is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Ann Sheppard; two sisters, Stella B. Light and Essie B. Fagan, all of Christiansburg; one brother, Daniel Blackwell, Pilot; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, including a special great-grandson, Derick Lee Graves who she raised to be 10 years old and who will sadly miss her. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday from the Belview United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Larry Mann with burial in the family cemetery. Friends may call anytime Sunday and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home.

DAVIDSON, Beulah Mae Faulkner, 81, of Christiansburg, formerly of Bluefield, died Saturday, June 11, 1994, in a Radford hospital. Born in Delp, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Kelly and Americus Elizabeth Poe Faulkner. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Davidson. Survivors include two daughters, Mr. JoAnn Davidson Strike, Marietta, Ga., Mrs. Emilie Davidson Broome, Christiansburg; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Reverend Bryan Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Directory in Princeton. HOWARD, Mary Layne, 99, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, June 9, 1994 in Richmond. She was survived by three sons; four daughters, one daughter of Roanoke, Virginia Henley; three sisters; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. Funeral 11 a.m. Monday, Diuguid Rivermont Chapel with burial in Boonsboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

HUBBLE, Frank W., 73, of Roanoke, formerly of Rural Retreat, died Friday, June 10, 1994, in Lewis Gale Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marie M. Hubble; son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Roxanne Hubble, Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Pamula and Ralph Hall, Max Meadows; one granddaughte r, Amy Towler, Elk Creek; two sisters and two brothers-in-laws, Verna and Lewis Henley, Evelyn and Mack Lundy, all of Rural Retreat. He was retired as Area Manager of Fire Programs for the Commonwealth of Virginia and was a veteran of World War II, and member of the American Legion and Salem Moose Lodge. Funeral services will be held at College Lutheran Church, Salem, of which he was a member for many years, on Monday, June 13, 1994, at 2 p.m. with Pastors D. J. Westerman and Robert R. MATTINGLY, Carrie Louise, 74, of Roanoke, died Friday, June 10, 1994. She was the widow of Joseph L. Mattingly Sr. and is survived by her son, Joseph L. Mattingly Jr., Richard L. Mattingly, both of Roanoke and Michael Lynn Mattingly, Rochester, Minn.; five grandchildren; brothers, Raymond C. Garrett and Robert C. Garrett, both of California; her sister, Bobby Southerland, Richmond; stepmother, Effie Garrett, California. Graveside funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sherwood Memorial Park by Pastor Randy Garner and Pastor Mike Lee. MCNEIR, Harry P., 69, of Floyd, passed away at his home on Thursday, June 8, 1994. He is survived by one son, Harry P. McNeir Jr., Maryland; one brother, Russell McNeir, New Jersey; three stepdaughters, Michele, Stephanie, Patti, all of New Jersey; one granddaughter, Keelan, New Jersey; several nieces and nephews. MEADOWS, Antonio, (""Tony""), 62, of Roanoke, died Friday, June 10, 1994. Mr. Meadows is survived by his wife, Peggy R. Meadows; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael & Teresa Meadows of Cloverdale, Charles Meadows of Roanoke, and Frederick & Lynn Meadows of Cloverdale, Charles Meadows of Roanoke, and Frederick and Lynn Meadows of Roanoke; three daughters & sons-in-law, Twila and Donald Buckley of Vinton, Belinda and Perry Jones Jr., of Roanoke, and Marsha and Veign Vonpakady of Charlotte, N.C. and eight grandchildren. PATTON, Irma Pauline, 87, of the T. Stuart Payne Center, Salem, died Friday, June 10, 1994, in a local hospital, after a lingering illness. Miss Patton was the el

dest child of William M. and Cora Hall Patton. She received her bachelor's and master's degree from Marshall University. Miss Patton was a retired schoolteacher, having taught in Monroe and Greenbrier Counties in West Virginia. She retired from the Roanoke City school system, where she desired to help her students get the very best start for their future. She was voted Teacher of the Year in Greenbrier County and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma society. After her retirement, she did volunteer work at Community Hospital and other places. She was a member of Green Ridge Presbyterian Church, Circle #2, and various bridge clubs. Surviving are two brothers, O. H. ``Pat"" Patton, Roanoke, Melvin A. Patton and wife, Adele, Winchester; three sisters, Cleo P. Johns, Lynchburg, Ina ``Pat"" Tingle, Roanoke, Louise P. Rowan, Clinton, Tenn.; five nephews; four nieces; a number of great-nephews; great-nieces; and cousins; a special friend, Nannie Gregory, Salem. A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m., Monday, in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens by Dr. William A. Cole and the Rev. Thomas C. Clay. The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's North Chapel.

SAUNDERS, Thomas Robert, (Bob), 70, of Moneta, was dead on arrival at Franklin Memorial Hospital Saturday, June 11, 1994. Mr. Saunders was born December 20, 1923 the son of the late Albert and Etta Mae Brown Saunders. He was a veteran of the Army and served in World War II. He is survived by two brothers, Jesse and John Saunders, both of Moneta; two nieces, Jeannie Shifflet, Richmond, Tina M. Saunders, Rockville, Md.; three nephews, Rodney Burdine, Rockville, Md., John R. Saunders Jr., Richmond, Jesse C. Saunders Jr., Moneta. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 1994, at Lynch Funeral Chapel, Rocky Mount with the Rev. J. D. Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. SHELOR, Beulah Slusher, 85, of Christiansburg, died Friday, June 10, 1994 in the Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was the widow of Janna G. Shelor and is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday from the Richardson-Horne Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Richard H. Horne with burial in Sunset Cemetery. She was the widow of Charles Lee Thornton and was retired from Burlington Industries PFG. Surviving are two sons, Lenny Moore, Moneta, Alvin Harris, Botetourt Co.; four grandchildren; mother, Mattie Robertson, Roanoke; sisters, Geneva Hall, Roanoke, Mary Payne, Vinton, Juanita Gray, Evington, Arranilla Gaunt, Birmingham, Ala.; brothers, James Robertson, Edward Robertson, both of Roanoke.
