GOVERNOR REPLACES 7 OUT OF 9 MEMBERS OF CORRECTIONS BOARD

Gov. George Allen continued his sweep of the state government Friday by removing seven of the nine members of the state Board of Corrections and replacing them with his own choices.

Allen said having a competent board "will be essential in the months ahead as we take the necessary steps to reform Virginia's failed criminal justice system."

The seven new appointees are:

Alexandria Vice Mayor William Cleveland, an officer with the U.S. Capitol Police.

Diane Davis-Wagner, a Portsmouth businesswoman.

Carl Knickman of Madison County, a retired executive with the Central Intelligence Agency.

Page County lawyer John McGrath Jr.

Former Tazewell County Sheriff William Osborne.

Dickenson County Administrator Jack Rose, a former Washington police officer.

Former Richmond Sheriff Andrew Winston.

Allen also reappointed Henry Schrieberg, a retired Richmond General District Court judge, to the panel.

Penny Anderson of Richmond was not eligible for reappointment. Members who were removed were Margaret Spencer of Richmond, Philip Walker of Hampton, Carol Grant of Arlington, Mannie Norford of Charlottesville, Robert Legard of Purcellville, Alexander McMurtie of Midlothian and John Peterson Sr. of Alexandria.
