COFFEY, Claude Alexander, 83, of Route 2, Bedford, died Saturday, July 16, 1994, in Woodhaven Nursing Home. He was born in Gaffney, S.C. on August 4, 1910, a son of the late Claude Coffey and Emma Bryant Coffey. He was the former co-owner and manager of Bedford Farmers Supply and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Thaxton Baptist Church, Liberty Masonic Lodge 95 AF & AM, and the Peaks of Otter Post 2157 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by a son, Danny A. Coffey, Big Island; a daughter, Linda C. Crunkleton, Bedford; a sister, Myrtle C. Douglas, Gaffney, S.C.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery, Monday, July 18, 1994 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Michael R. DuVal officiating. The family suggest those wishing to make memorials consider the Montvale Rescue Squad or a charity of their choice. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.

COOPER, Harrison Cantor Jr., (``Brother''), 53, of Roanoke, passed away, Friday, July 15, 1994. He was preceded in death by his father, Harrison C. Cooper Sr., and his mother, Mary L. Cooper. He is survived by two sons, Barrin D. Cooper and Decarlos V. Cooper; one daughter, Naomi K. Cooper; one brother, George E. Cooper, Sr. and one sister, Vivian L. Cooper; a devoted and dear friend for many years, Mary A. Prunty; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins, and many friends. Arrangements by Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.

COX, Winnie A., 97, of Rt. 3, Independence, passed away, Saturday, July 16, 1994. Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday, Gold Hill Baptist Church. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va. in charge of arrangements.

DeHART, Sarah Ellen Burnett, 91, of Willis, Va. mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Passed away Friday, July 15, 1994, at Twin County Community Hospital, Galax, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, John I. DeHart (1940) and a son John I. DeHart Jr. (1990). She was retired from the Arlington County School System in June 1965. She attended the Harris Chapel United Methodist Church and Conners Grove Primitive Baptist Church as long as she was able. A life long resident of Floyd County, she cheri shed life, family, and friends. She enjoyed gardening, her home, flowers, quilting, crocheting and visiting by telephone with her many friends when she became homebound. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Charles F. Morris Jr., Alexandria; one daughter-in-law, Betty L. DeHart, Willis; one sister, Claudia B. Spence, Floyd; five grandchildren, S. Gail M. Bolt, Troutville, Regina Lynn DeHart, Roanoke, SFC John M. DeHart, Italy, Dianne E. M. Letsche, Alexandria, Thomas W. DeHart, Ruther Glen, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Thomas W. DeHart, Jr., Christopher Ryan DeHart, Amanda Lauren DeHart. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 18, 1994, at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Cemetery. FUQUA, James L., (``Jimmy''), 73, of Vinton, passed away, Friday, July 15, 1994. He was retired from the Va. Medical Center, Salem and was a member of the Roanoke Moose Lodge #284 and held the Legion and Fellowship Degrees. He was a life member of the VFW. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Dillard Fuqua; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Hazel Fuqua, Barry and Nancy Fuqua and Terry and Rhonda Fuqua; his father-in-law, Jasper C. (Bud) Dillard of Roanoke; sister-in-law and husband, Virginia and Charles Whitmire; grandchildren, Chris Fuqua and wife, Tracy, Jeff and Ryan Fuqua, Jamie and David Fuqua, Donna Beth and Tommy Fuqua; a sister, Louise Horn; brother and wife, Bobby and Verdine Fuqua; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 1994, at Lotz Vinton Chapel, the Rev. William E. Hungate will officate. HIATT, Curtis, 59, of Roanoke, died Saturday, July 16, 1994. He is survived by his wife Beulah Mae Simpkins Hiatt; daughters, Shannon Renee Hiatt Thurman, Roanoke, Drema Ann Quesenberry Gordon and husband Bo, Moneta; sons, Randy Lee Hiatt, Mt. Airy, N.C., James Edward Quesenberry and Gary Wayne Quesenberry, both of Roanoke; brother, Grady Hiatt, Mt. Airy, N.C.; grandchildren Deric Wayne Quesenberry, Quentin Lee Quesenberry and a very special grandson, Christian Jacob (Dinkus) Thurman, of the home; dear friend, Jonathan Mark Williams; special friends, Jim Musick, (Junk) McGhee, all of Roanoke. JACKSON, Essie Virginia Waid, 69, of Roanoke, passed away, Saturday, July 16, 1994, at her residence. She was the wife of Deacon Maceo Jackson and the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. H. H. Waid. She was a deaconess at the Central Baptist Church where she had served also as Church Clerk. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Richmond, Va. Seminary, Department of Religion in 1985; she was highly active in the religious community of Roanoke; and was past president of the Women's Auxiliary to the Valley Baptist Association. Survivors include her husband, Maceo Jackson Sr.; two sons, Joel Ernest Jackson, Roanoke and Maceo Nathan Jackson, Fort Bragg, N.C. (one son, Dr. Wallace Saunders preceded her in death); also surviving are one daughter, Temple Jane Jackson, Roanoke; eight grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Vanessa Jackson, Fort Bragg, N.C. and Mrs. Frances Saunders, Roanoke; five sisters, Mrs. Bessie Basham, Botetourt Co., Mrs. Sadie Stores, Mrs. Sylvia Davis, Mrs. Rebekah Delois Drew, and Mrs. Sandra Wright; three brothers, Roy H. Waid, Rev. H. Eugene Waid both of Roanoke and Mason D. Waid, Temple Hills, M.D.; brothers-in-law, George Stores, Sr., Louis Drew and Robert Wright; sisters-in-law, Ella Mae Waid, Yvonne Waid, Ruby Waid; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. MARSHALL, C. Moir, 83, of Laurel Fork, passed away July 15, 1994, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born November 4, 1910 in Carroll County to Mont and Ida Belle Rorrer Marshall. He was retired from the Postal Service with more than forty years of service. He is survived by his wife, Bessie Stanley Marshall; one son and daughter-in-law, Wendell and Rozella Marshall, Galax; one sister, Eva Bolt, Laurel Fork. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, 1994, at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville with the Rev. Clarence Marshall and Rev. Harris Easter officiating. McGUIRE, Curtis Price, (``Happy""), 54, of Hoges Chapel, near Pembroke, died Friday morning, July 15,1994, at his home. Born in Giles County, he was a son of the late Armstrong and Lucy Price McGuire. He was a retired millwright with the RAAP Hercules Powder Co. and a veteran of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne and served in Korea. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, David and Kristi McGuire, Blacksburg; his two daughters, Kimberly McGuire, Pembroke, April McGuire, Hillsville; three brothers, Edward Pete McGuire, Pearisburg, Richard Allen McGuire, Norfolk, James A. McGuire, Narrows. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 18, 1994, at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. Graveside military rites will be performed by the American Legion and VFW of Giles County.

MITCHELL, Warren William, 70, of Hardy, died Friday, July 15, 1994. He was a retired welder with American Bridge and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Thelma Lee Mitchell; two sons and daughter-in-law, Warren Wayne Mitchell (and special friend, Diann Scruggs), Hardy; Timothy Lee and Sheri Lynn Mitchell, Hardy; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Diane and Richard France, Bassett; one sister, Laura Ellen Amos, Hardy; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. STEWART, Andrew Scott, 34, of Williamsburg, departed this life on July 16, 1994 at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Frank E. McCown, Alvin J. Stewart and a sister, Jennifer Stewart. Surviving are his wife, Vanessa F. Stewart; daughter, Lauren N. Stewart; and son, Brandon S. Stewart, all of Williamsburg. Also surviving are his parents, James A. and Alyce M. Stewart, Roanoke; grandmothers, Ada J. McCown, Roanoke, Dorothy Stewart, Lenoir City, Tenn.; one sister, Elizabeth S. WADE, Codell J., 76, of Ridgewood Road, Bassett, died Friday, July 15, 1994, in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville/Henry County. Born in Rockingham County, N.C., May 15, 1918, She was a daughter of the late D. C. Jones and Katie Gibson Jones. The widow of H. Jack Wade, she was retired from Bassett Furniture Industries, was a charter member of Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church, a member of Town and County Garden Club, and a member of Women's Auxilary American Legion Post 11. Surviving are her daughter, Linda Sue Wade, of Bassett; two sisters, Edith J. Harris, of Martinsville, Mickey J. Morris, of Buena Vista; and a brother, William Kenneth (Red) Jones, of Sautee, Ga. Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday at Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Ashley officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville. WOOD, Frank Elijah, 64, of Rocky Mount, died Friday, July 15, 1994, at his home. He was a veteran of the Korean War. WOODFIELD, Joseph Eldridge, 77, of Roanoke, died Friday, July 15, 1994. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in America, where he was an Elder Emeritus and member of the Adult Choir. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Surviving are his wife, Barbara P. Woodfield; son and daughter-in-law Bill and Sharon Woodfield, son, Donald E. Woodfield; two granddaughters, Amy and Stacey Jo Woodfield all of Roanoke; brother and sister-in-law, George and Vesta Woodfield, Charleston, S.C.; sister, Emma Rose Howard of Maryland; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, 1994, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in American with the Rev. John R. Furman, Rev. Aubrey Whitlow and Rev. James Edwards officiating.
