BUCHANAN FARMER LACY SMITH DIES

Lacy A. Smith, a dairy and livestock farmer and former director of Roanoke Farm Credit, died Thursday at his home in Buchanan. He was 59.

Smith, a Buchanan native, was elected to the board of directors of Farm Credit Bank of Baltimore in 1993.

He operated a Botetourt County farm with his son, Lewis G. Smith.

Smith graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1958 and worked as a school teacher in his home county for a while.

A service was held Sunday in Buchanan. Smith is survived by his widow, the former Margaret Anne Lavinder, two daughters and a son.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, friends make donations to the Buchanan Rescue Squad or Trinity Episcopal Church.
