SECRIST DELIVERS IN 4-2 BUCS VICTORY

WILMINGTON, Del. - Reed Secrist homered and drove in three runs, and three Salem pitchers did their part by combining on a six-hitter as the Buccaneers held on to beat the Wilmington Blue Rocks 4-2 on Monday night in Carolina League baseball.

Secrist put Salem (13-17) in front 2-0 in the second inning. After Jay Cranford singled with one out, Secrist homered off Wilmington starter Jim Pittsley (7-4).

The Blue Rocks (15-15) cut their deficit to a run in the third against Bucs starter Matt Ruebel (4-2). After Raul Gonzalez reached on third baseman Jay Cranford's error and advanced on two groundouts, he came home on a single by Steve Sisco.

Salem made it 4-1 in the seventh on sacrifice flies by Secrist, playing left field in place of Danny Clyburn, and second baseman Ramon Zapata.

After Matt Ryan pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the Bucs, Wilmington scored a run in the ninth off Salem closer Sean Evans. But Evans shut the door to record his seventh save.
