PLAYING WITH A FULL DECK

It's raining buckets and you're trapped indoors, bored and weary of watching three networks on the O.J. Simpson hearings.

Oh, what to do!

Why, pull out your deck of 52 Rainy Day Activities cards by Lynn Gordon, of course. Thumbing through the deck, you can choose from 52 activities to fill your rainy day. Try turning a huge cardboard box into a spaceship. Grow those mystery seeds scattered in your kitchen's junk drawer. Make a paper chain. You might even build a fort - kid style with bed sheets and furniture.

Say you're down in the dumps? Try Gordon's 52 Silly Things to do When You Are Blue. Make chicken soup (recipe included). Vacuum (yeah, right.) Finger paint or make rags out of your old underwear and socks and go buy new ones. Buy your favorite TV dinner.

OK, so it's not raining and you're not blue. But you are in love and in desperate need of a charming way to show it. Grab Gordon's 52 Tokens of Affection - more cards with more things to do. Have a picnic indoors; read a bedtime story together; eat breakfast in bed; write a love poem; compose a love song; model a private fashion show. You get the picture.

Three other decks by Gordon make up the 52 Deck series ($5.95 each by chronicle Books): 52 Fun Things to do in the Car, 52 Adventures in San Francisco and 52 Adventures in New York City.

Of course, you have to be in San Francisco or New York City to appreciate the latter two. But just reading them will inspire you to do something - anything - to escape another day of real-life TV court drama.
