PIZZA CAR RECOVERED; ARREST MADE

If the man arrested Thursday in Albemarle County is the polite bandit who stole a Roanoke pizza deliverywoman's car, he has a poor sense of direction.

The robber told Crista Birmingham he was stealing her car to round up mercenaries to fight in Mexico.

State police arrested Phillip Warren Sirrine, 21, of the 200 block of Maple Street, Salem, in connection with a convenience store robbery, a Roanoke police news release said.

He was driving the red, two-door car stolen Wednesday from Birmingham, a 19-year-old delivery driver for Papa John's Pizza on Brambleton Avenue Southwest, according to the release. Sirrine was carrying a 9mm semiautomatic handgun, the release said.

He is being held by state police on charges of resisting arrest and possession of a stolen vehicle, according to the release.

Roanoke police will seek charges in the abduction of Birmingham, the release said.
