NEW PRINCIPAL FOR CHRISTIANSBURG MIDDLE

The Montgomery County School Board has appointed a North Carolina educator as the new school principal at Christiansburg Middle School.

Donald J. Bullock served as director of secondary education for Montgomery County Public Schools last year, but before that had worked in North Carolina schools for almost 20 years.

His most recent position in North Carolina was as instructional leader at Gates County High School in Gatesville, N.C. He also has been a middle school teacher, high school teacher, middle school assistant principal and middle school and high school principal.

``I'm excited about working with the staff here [at the middle school] and of course everything we do will be focused on the student,'' Bullock said Wednesday. ``One thing that will become very obvious with the staff and the community is that I'm a student-oriented administrator.''

Bullock said one of his major objectives is ``to bring some stability to the programs'' at the school, which has had three different principals in the past five years.

"My other objective is to emphasize the positive," he added.

Bullock received his bachelor's, master's and specialist degrees from East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C.

He replaces Bill Fletcher, who is now assistant principal at Shawsville High and Middle School.
