FOR THE RECORD

Because of a copy editor's error, Friday's Calendar of Events gave incorrect dates for the Showtimers production of ``The Sound of Music,'' which will have additional performances. Shows are Tuesday through Sunday at 8 p.m. with a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. The show closes Aug. 14.

Amplification

Part of Senate candidate Douglas Wilder's answer was left out of Friday's "Citizens' Q&A" column.

In answer to the question about whether he supported using trust funds, such as Social Security or highway trust funds, for deficit reduction, Wilder's complete answer was:

"I strongly oppose the use of trust funds for general fund purposes. Social Security taxes must be used solely for providing benefits and for preparing for future benefits. To do otherwise is to break trust with the American people. All federal gasoline taxes should be spent on maintaining our transportation infrastructure.

"Our junior senator disagrees with this stance and wants to raise the gasoline tax 50 cents a gallon while not using the new revenues for transportation. Such a tax would be expensive to Virginia families and would set a dangerous precedent that would lead to an erosion of our transportation network."
