BLANKENBAKER, Wilmer Allan, 85, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 1994, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his elders son, Wilmer Allan Blankenbaker Jr. in 1966. He is survived by his wife, Frances, one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Emory and Maureen Blankenbaker, Chicago, Ill; three daughters, Jane Lee Kirk, Sterling, Susan Adell Blankenbaker and her devoted companion, Kathy Woodrell, Alexandria, Beth Anne and son-in-law, Frank R. Wise, El Dorado, Kan.; three grandchildren, David Allan Kirk, Michelle Christine Kirk, and Jeremy Robert Blankenbaker Wise. A memorial services will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church, 411 East Grace Street, Richmond on Saturday, August 13, 1994. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Johns Foundation, (for Hospice Services), 1401 Johnston Willis Drive, Richmond, Va. 23225.

BROWNLEE, Mildred McCue, 93, of 3905 Lancaster Dr., Raleigh, N.C., died Sunday, August 7, 1994, of natural causes at Mayview Convalescent Center, Raleigh, N. C. Mrs. Brownlee was born March 22, 1901 in Jackson, Miss. She received her bachelor's degree from Bellhaven College, Jackson, MS. She retired in 1972 as secretary to the Dean of Students at Washington and Lee University, after nearly 30 years. She was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church, Rockbridge Baths, Va. Mrs. Brownlee was married to John Malcolm Brownlee Sr., who died February 16, 1974. She is survived by two sons, John Malcolm Brownlee Jr. and his wife, Sarah, of Huntersville, N.C., and Thomas McCue (Mac) Brownlee and his wife, Becky, of Raleigh, N. C.; her four grandsons, Joh n Brownlee, Athens, Ohio, Hale Brownlee, Birmingham, Ala., Chris and Jason Brownlee, both of Raleigh, N. C. Funeral services will be held at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, Rockbridge Baths, Va. at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 1994. CAMPBELL, Jerry W., ``Buster"", 75 of Roanoke, passed away Monday, August 8, 1994, in a local hospital. Mr. Campbell was a retired Painting Contractor. Surviving are his wife, Irene Correll Campbell; mother, Clara Bell T. Campbell, Roanoke; daughters and son-in-law, Clara E. Shipp, Tuson, Ariz., Patsy Ann Partaine, Noblesville, Ind., Hazel and Bill Dooley, Lakeville, Mass; five stepdaughters, Trudy Crysel, Stella Duncan, Carol Ranson, Gail Wright and Joyce Porterfield, all of Roanoke; one son, Ronnie Thornhill Campbell, South Attleboro, Mass.; three stepsons, Bill Miller, Sacramento, Calif., Pete Thornhill, Virginia Beach, Va., Rickey Thornhill, Roanoke; fiv e brothers, Luther Campbell and Gordon Campbell, both of Vinton, Clyde Campbell, Goodview, Alexander Campbell, Baltimore, Md., and Charles Edgar Campbell, Joppa, Md.; thirty grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren. GOODWIN, Debbie Johnson, 41, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, August 7, 1994. Surviving are two daughters, Kelly Hotinger and Samantha Goodwin, both of Roanoke; father, Andrew ""Fordy"" Johnson, Natural Bridge; sisters, Pat Cooper, Roanoke, Penny Ogden, Natural Bridge Station; brothers, Allen Johnson, Roanoke, Steve Johnson, Natural Bridge; a number of neices and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday at Oakey's North Chapel by the Rev. Frank W. Feather. The family will receive friends following the service at Oakey's North Chapel.

HOLTON, Jessie Carpenter, 65, of Roanoke, died Sunday, August 7, 1994. Born in Detroit, Michigan, November 23, 1928, she was the daughter of Jessie Waterfall and Rolla Louis Carpenter. A graduate of Agnes Scott College, she received her Masters Degree in Special Education from the University of Virginia. Her professional career encompassed teaching in the Roanoke City Schools and as an educational consultant for Children's Specialty Services. Mrs. Holton was active in the Orton Dyslexia Society and co-authored ``Angling for Words"" Dictionary. She wa s a past President of the Chapter of Alpha Eta Delta Kappa Gamma Society and an active member of the Second Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder. She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Carpenter Holton and brothers, Edward and William. Mrs. Holton is survived by her sister, Elizabeth C. Bardin; and her children, Charles VanGorder Holton Jr., James O. Holton, William C. Holton and Jessie Holton Graybill. She was the cherished grandmother of six. A memorial service will be held at Second Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 1994. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. HUFF, William Neal Sr., 91, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, August 9, 1994. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and former member of Calvary Baptist Church of Roanoke. Mr. Huff was a machinist, having worked over fifty years in shops in Pulaski, Lynchburg, and retired from Singer Furniture in Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his son, Malcom Blaine Huff and a grandson, Timothy Blaine Huff. Mr. Huff is survived by his wife of 71 years, Virginia Moore Huff; three sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Harry E. and Arlene Huff, Arlington, Texas, Bob J. and Karla Huff, of Dugspur, Rev. W. Wesley ""Binky'' and Fern Huff, of Lynchburg; one son, William N. Huff Jr., of Dublin; one daughter-in-law, Louise Huff, of Hillsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Rev. Brenda H. and Maurice W. Rowe Sr., of Roanoke; sisters, Ruby H. Suthers, of Wytheville and Ruth H. Butts, of Atlanta, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, Debbie Kerr, Dale Huff, Linda Hill, Neal Huff, Ken Huff, Jodie Huff, Doug Huff, Kathy Greene, Teri Smith, Jennifer Rowe, Maury Rowe; 14 great-grandchildren. INGLES, James Lewis, 78, of Roanoke, died Monday, August 8, 1994. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, a native of Montgomery County, a graduate of VPI School of Mechanical Engineering, and served during Word War II and was discharged as a Lt. Col. He was a former sandlot and little league coach. He was the son of the late James Lewis Ingles and Gertrude Venable Ingles. Surviving are his wife, Sophie Anne Chapman Ingles, Roanoke; son, Lewis Chapman Ingles and his wife, Marjorie, Gap, Pa.; grandson, Benjamin Lewis Ingles and granddaughter, Elizabeth Chapman Ingles, both of Gap; nephew, Col. Lewis Ingles Jeffries, Radford. Graveside services will be conducted at East Hill Cemetery, Salem 11:15 a.m. Thursday. A memorial service will be conducted in St. John's Episcopal Church Roanoke at 12 noon on Thursday. The Rev . Thomas O'Dell will officiate. The family will receive friends in the chapel of St. John's Episcopal Church from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday. LONG, William Henry, Sr., 62, of 511 Wintergreen Ave., Clifton Forge, died Monday, August 8, 1994, at his residence. He was born in Albemarle County on September 5, 1931, son of the late Charles Austin and Agnes Sprouse Long. He was a retired Yard Brakeman of C. & O. Railway Company, a member of Central Advent Christian Church and served in the National Guard. He is survived by his wife, Doris Painter Long, Clifton Forge; one daughter, Pamela Lipes, Clifton Forge; two sons, William Henry Long Jr., Fincastle, Christopher Long, Clifton Forge; five brothers, Charles Long, Iron Gate, Clarence Long, Keswick, Lewis Long, Covington, Robert Long, Clifton Forge, James Long, Meally, Ky.; four grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 11, 1994, at 2 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home Chapel, wi th the Rev. Louis Dodd officiating. Interment to follow in the Alleghany Memorial Park. MEADE, Houston L., 76, of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, August 8, 1994 at his home. He worked for Hercules Radford Army Ammunition Plant with 29 years service and served in the U.S. Army for seven years under the 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Division. He particpated in three invasions: North Africa, Sicily, and France. He was in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany. Mr. Meade is survived by his wife, Bea Meade of Skyline Manor, Floyd; three sons, Tim, Steve, and Randall Meade; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. MEEKS, Emmett L. 92, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, August 9, 1994 in a local hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Jones Meeks. Surviving are three sons, Clyde E. Meeks, Oscar S. Meeks, Ernest R. Meeks, all of Roanoke; six daughters, Rachel Blankenship, of Moneta, Mary Hartman, Violet Flora, both of Boones Mill, Ruby Meeks, Lucille Wright, both of Roanoke, Virginia Osterbind, of Richmond; 37 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; a sister, Edna M. Wise, of Mebane, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 1994 with the Rev. Larry E. Sprouse officiating. O'DONNELL, Jean Marie, of Smith Mountain Lake, died Tuesday, August 9, 1994 in a Roanoke hospital. She was born January 1, 1913 in Carbondale, Pa., daughter of the late Patrick Walker and Mary Roark Walker. She was a Communicant of Resurrection Catholic Church, Moneta and was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. O'Donnell and four brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Dr. Edward F. O'Donnell, Rockville, Md.; two daughters, Mary P. Larranaga, Bloomington, MI., and Karen J. Thorpe, Christiansburg; a brother, John Walker, Clarion, Pa.; also nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, August 11, 1994 at 11 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church, with Father James Begley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 9:30 a.m.until the time of the Mass. Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford, is handling arrangements.

PARKER, James Owen Jr. 50, formerly of Roanoke, died on Monday, August 8, 1994 in Suitland, Md. He is survived by his wife, Juanita; one son, Darryl Parker; his grandmother, Ella Williams, of Copper Hill, Va.; four sisters, Shirley Bennett, Marion Wilkes, Vanessa Cooper, and Marsha Via, all of Roanoke; two brothers, Curtis Parker, Decatur, Ga., and Leroy Parker, of Roanoke; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. ROOPE, Robert James, 41, of Klondike Rd., Walkertown, N.C., died Tuesday, August 9, 1994 at N.C. Baptist Hospital. He was born March 16, 1953 in Anne Arundell County, Md. to Eugene Billy and Fannie Mae Wilkes Roope. Mr. Roope was a member of Eden Masonic Temple Leasksville Lodge #136 AF&AM. He was a maintenance mechanic at Miller Brewing Company in Eden. He was also a private pilot. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Linda Kay Wilson Roope of the home; two daughters, Nicole Heather Roope and Leslie Ann Roope; on son, Jason Robert Roope, all of the home; his mother Mrs. Fannie Mae Wilkes Roope of Roanoke; one sister, Jeanie Ann Roope of Roanoke; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel by the Rev. Joe B. Parker. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Walkertown with Masonic Rites. RUFF, Wilson, of Canton, Ohio, passed away Saturday evening, August 6, 1994, in Aultman Hospital. Bo rn in Roanoke, the eldest son of Robert and Mary (Patterson) Ruff, he was retired from the Ohio Power Co., January 1977 after 44 years of service. Mr. Ruff transferred to Canton General Office from Marietta in 1972 as Environmental Affairs Director. He attended William and Mary College, a 1935 graduate of University of Alabama with a BA Degree in Chemistry. He did graduate studies at Pittsburgh University and Marietta College. Mr. Ruff was very involved with Environmental work and consulted three years following his retirement with Environmental Research Technology. Wilson was an avid golfer with a few holes in one to his credit, avid Photographer and did weather observing for the Government during World War II, which later become a hobby. He was a member of the Order of White Jackets at William and Mary College, American Chemical Society, Ohio Power Veterans Group and Retiree Association. Survivors include his wife, Jane; stepchildren, John A Curran of Fairfax, Susan C. Galen of Dallas, Texas, Patricia A. Curran of Portland, Ore.; grandsons, Reed Galin of Dallas, Texas, and Spencer Coe Curran of Portland, Ore.; son-in-law, Richard Galen of Dallas, Texas; daughter-in-law, Jann Buller of Fairfax; one sister, Lily Maynard of Fredericksburg; three brothers, Robert P. Ruff of Roanoke, H.L. Ruff of Bedford, and Edward Ruff of Houston, Texas; several nieces and nephews. The family will be receiving friends in their home, Friday, August 12, 1994, from 5 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, August 20, 1994, in Peaks Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. in Bedford. SCRUGGS, William Benjamin, 86, of Roanoke, died Monday, August 8, 1994 at Raleigh Court Health Care Center. He was a retired accounting manager for the Norfolk & Western Railroad. He served as a Lieutenant in the Virginia Militia during World War II and was a member of the Knights of Pythias Osceola Lodge. He was a good person and will be lovingly missed by his family. Surviving are his wife, Leona Bradley Scruggs; one daughter, Sandra Scruggs Teigland and son-in-law, Lowell Teigland, Roanoke; also surviving is one granddaughter, Catharine Nye Scruggs, Colorado Springs, Colo. SINK, William D., 56, of Roanoke, died Monday, August 8, 1994, at his home. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserves with over 30 years of service. Mr. Sink graduated from VMI in 1958. He attended Windsor Hills Baptist Church and was a quality engineer at R.A.A.P. He is survived by his wife, Robin Sink; daughter, Dana Shifflett, both of Roanoke; sons, Greg Sink, Bluefield, W.Va., Stuart Sink, Roanoke; four grandchildren, Chelsey and Cory Shifflett, both of Roanoke, Jacob and Jordon Sink, both of Bluefield, W.Va. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel 11 a.m., Thursday, with the Rev. C. Lawrence Dodson officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park with military grave rites by the Fort Lee Burial Team. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society. WALTERS, Dorothy Dishman, 78, of Buchanan, died Monday, August 8, 1994. She was born in Newport News and was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Butler Kirk and James Cody Dishman. She was predeceased by her husband, John William Walters III in 1975 and her daughter, Nancy Elliott Walters in 1965. She was an active member and former deacon of the Buchanan Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Buchanan Town Improvement Society, the Fairview Cemetery Association, and Professional Secretaries, International. She worked at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. from 1963 - 1979, then retired to Buchanan. She is survived by three sons, Anthony Wayne Johnston Walters, Allen Kirk Walters, both of Buchanan, William Bruce Walters, Boise, Idaho; one brother, Noel Dishman, Illinois; four grandchildren, Jason Wescott Shadrick, William Walters, Rebecca Walters, and Nancy Walters. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 13, 1994, 4 p.m. at the Buchanan Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Steven Shussett officiating. WEEKS, Thornton Cleveland, 82, of Manassas and formerly of Willis, passed away Monday, August 8, 1994 at Prince William Hospital in Manassas. Surviving her his wife, Oneta K. Weeks, Manassas; one daughter, Zula (Judy) Schaeffer, Manassas; two sons, Allen L. Weeks, Morrestown, N.J., Joseph C. Weeks, Lusby, Md.; one sister, Ruby Weeks, Manassas; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev.
