ALIFF, Lt. Col. Ret. Milton L., 77, of Roanoke, died Thursday, August 11, 1994. He was a World War II veteran, a member of American Legion Post #3. He was on the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans WH MacKenzie Post #3, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1264, life member and Past Chapter President of the Retired Officers Association, a life member of the MOWW, life member of the Reserve Officers Association, Post Commander and State Commander of Post #64, National Commander of the 29th Division Association, National Finance Officer of the 29th Division Association, Finance Officer for Post #64 and State, Charter Member of the U. S. Committee for the Battle of Normandy Museum, Cann, France, Roanoke Valley Veterans Council and Director and Charter Member of the National D-Day Memorial Foundation. Surviving are his wife, Robby Aliff; two daughters and son-in-law, Hillery Callahan, Dianne and Gerald Wingo, all of Roanoke; two sons and daughters-in-law, Col. Funeral services will be at Oakey's South Chapel 1 p.m. Monday. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the Fort Lee Burial Detachment. ASBURY, Mrs. Mabel Lanham, 81, of Christiansburg, Va., formerly of Charleston, W.Va., passed away Thursday, August 11, 1994, at home. She was born in Swandale, W.Va., September 13, 1912. She was for many years a nurse Widen, W.Va.. For the last 40 years, she lived on Rocky Fork at Tyler Mountain. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Tyler Mountain. She is survived by her son, Robert Asbury, Christiansburg; granddaughter, Karen McCann, Christiansburg; great grandson, Christopher McCann, Christiansburg; two sisters, Mary Wood and Ollie Lanham, both of Charleston, W.Va.; one brother, Lonnie Lanham, Charleston, W.Va. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 1994, at Wilson Funeral Home, Charleston, W.Va., with Pastor Steve D. Nelson officiating. BROCK, Lessie, 72, of Nicholson, Ga., died Friday, August 12, 1994. She was born in Wythe, Va., and retired from One Hour Martinizing with 20 years of service. She was a member of the Green Acres Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Bill Brock, Nicholson, Ga.; sons, Steve D. Gullion, Houston, Texas; daughters, Ruby G. BROOKS, Mary, 71, of Trammel, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, August 11, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County. She was a graduate from Ervington High School and a graduate from Oak Hill School for Girls in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She was a charter member of Trammel Baptist Church and a bible school teacher. She was a retired teacher in the Dickenson County School Systems, a retired tax preparer, a retired barber and a retired nursing assistant of the Veterans Hospital in Salem, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie Brooks and one son, Roma Lee Brooks. Survivors include three sons, Arlie Richard Brooks of Alexandria, Va; Claude William Brooks and Adlai Vernon Brooks, both of Roanoke, Va.; one daughter, Vivian Hardy of Gretna, Va.; one daughter-in-law, Deborah Brooks of Roanoke, Va.; one sister, Isabelle Duncan of Trammel, Va.; twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, August 15, at 1:30 p.m. at the Trammel Baptist Church with Paul Fields officiating. Burial will follow in the Brooks-Kiser Cemetery (Carrie Section-Hazel Mountain). Pallbearers will be: Jeff Duncan, Tommy Duncan, Terry Thomas, Arlie Brooks II, Billy Duncan, Richard Brooks, and Jamie Brooks. CAMPBELL, Helen Landers Fauber, of Staunton, died Wednesday, August 10, 1994. Born in Lithia, May 5, 1898, she was a daughter of the late Leonidas and Lula Bower Landers. She was the widow of S. T. Campbell. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Claude R. Fauber Sr. Mrs. Campbell was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday School Teacher and President of the United Methodist Women for several years. She served as Postmaster in Lithia for a number of years. Her hobbies included an active participation in poetry and music. Survivors include one son, C. Ray Fauber, Raphine; one stepson, Roy Campbell, Lowesville; two daughters, Grace Young, Brownsburg, and Martha Conner, Faber; two stepdaughters, Edna Mays, Amherst, and Annie Mae Johnson, Stuarts Draft; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 1994 in Byrum-Parr Funeral Home, by the Rev. Wayne C. Moore, with burial in Bethlehem Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. CRAFT, Carl L. (TEX), 46, of 701 Dale Avenue, Roanoke, (formerly of New Castle), died Friday, August 12, 1994, at Lewis Gale Hospital. He was the son of the late C. Willard Craft and Mary M. Craft. He is survived by his mother, Mary M. Craft, New Castle; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara Ann and Billy Perkins, Hardy, Doodie and Kerwin Blankenship, New Castle; two brothers and sister-in-law, Jimmy C. Craft, Charlie and Sylvia Craft, all of New Castle; five nieces, two nephews, three great-nieces. Funeral service will be Sunday, 3 p.m., at Biotnott Funeral Home Chapel, Jim Morris officiating. DALTON, Mamie Viola, 87, of Wytheville, formerly of Bland, died Thursday, August 11, 1994. DAVIS, Minna S., 87, of Ocean Terrace, Ormond Beach, Fla., died Thursday, August 11, 1994, at Ormond Memorial Hospital, Ormond Beach, Fla. She was born in Franklin, Iowa and has been a resident of Ormond Beach since 1969 coming from Mentor, Ohio. Mrs. David was a retired school teacher, a member of the Ormond Beach Union Church, and a Red Cross vounteer. Mrs. David is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lynn A. Jr. and June Davis, of Radford; her daughter-in-law, Sue and Michael Medei, of Ormond Beach, Fla.; one brother, Luther Burhoffer, of Ft. HENDERSON, Zella L. 78, of Radford, died Thursday, August 11, 1994, at Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Roanoke after a long illness. She was born August 7, 1916, in Pearisburg, Va., the youngest child of the late William L. and Lucy Vance Harless. She was a graduate of Catawba Nursing School and was retired from Radford Community Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry Leslie and Paul Henderson; five brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by one daughter, Ms. Charlotte Leslie, of Radford; two special nieces, Mrs. Thelma Nichols and Mrs. Beulah Glenn, both of Rock Hill, S.C.; a n umber of nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Angie. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 14, 1994 at 2 p.m. from the Central United Methodist Church in Radford with the Rev. Joe Green officiating. Mrs. Henderson's niece, Mrs. Lucy Giles, will deliver the eulogy. Mrs. Henderson's nephews will serve as the pallbearers. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. LOVE, Peggy Sigmon, 63, of Rocky Mount, died Friday morning, August 12, 1994 at her home. She was born in Franklin County on April 16, 1931. Mrs. Love was an active member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church, serving as treasurer from 1992 - 1993, and as a Sunday School teacher for over 30 years. She was a member of the Rocky Mount Town Council from 1990 to 1994 and served on numerous committees. Mrs. Love retired from the Franklin County Public School System with over 37 years service, as Director of Business and Finance and Clerk of the School Board. She was also a member of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, the Franklin County Womens' Club and the Franklin Guild. Mrs. Love was preceded in death by her father, Dan E. Sigmon. She is survived by her husband, Floyd Love; one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Patti Love, Roanoke; two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann Callahan, Moneta, Pam and Mark Hanks, Bedford; one grandson, Keaton Hanks; one stepgrandson, Scott Markham, Roanoke; her mother, Vera W. Sigmon, Rocky Mount; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Alice and V. B. McCRICKARD, Merle Clarke, 75, of Figsboro Rd., Martinsville, died Friday, August 12, 1994 at Memorial Hospital, Martinsville-Henry Co., Va. He was born in Ajax (Pittsylvania Co.), Va. July 20, 1919 to the late Robert Lee and Bessie Ashworth McCrickard. He retired from the City of Martinsville, Supervisor of the Water Meter Room, was a member of Jones Chapel Church of the Brethren, where he was a deacon and former Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Woodman of the World. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rube McCrickard , two sisters, Clella Jacobs and Nell Williams, a half brother, Russell McCrickard and two half sisters, Iva Witcher and Lala Walker. He is survived by his wife, Hillie Williams McCrickard, of the home; daughters, Gayle (Mrs. Harmon) Harms, Figsboro, Myrna (Mrs. Allen) Ferguson, Collinsville; sister, Mildred Jefferson, Halston, Texas; brothers, Frederick McCrickard, Collinsville, James McCrickard, Elliston; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren. NIPPER, Charles Wesley, 78, died Thursday, April 11, 1994, at his home in Saltville, Va. Mr. Nipper was a retired employee of the Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation. He was a Member of the Saltville/Rich Valley Lions Club and attended the Macedonia Free-Will Baptist Church. RORRER, Oakley Wayne, 46, of Route 1, Box 242 C, Dublin (Swiss Knobb Subdivision), passed away Friday morning, August 12, 1994 in the Radford Community Hospital. Born March 17, 1948 in Pulaski County, he is the son of Thelma Ruth Burton Rorrer and the late Troy Tipton Rorrer. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served furing the Vietnam Conflict. He was the owner of EAS-Z Millwork, Inc. of Christiansburg, Va. Surviving are his wife, Brenda Lois Boyd Rorrer; daughter, Mrs. Will (Karen Lynette) Epps, Kingsport, Tenn.; mother, Thelma Ruth Burton Rorrer, Pulaski; and two brothers, Billy R. Rorrer, Pilot, and Lloyd D. Rorrer, Pulaski. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday from the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with the Rev. Danny Phillips and the Rev. Wanda Rorrer officiating. Interment will follow in Thornspring Cemetery, Pulaski County. SCOTT, Clayton H., 79, of Meadowview, died Thursday, August 11, 1994 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and was a member of the Meadowview United Methodist Church. He had been a farmer and dairyman for many years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucille S. Scott; one son, Donald H. Scott, Glen Cove, N.Y.; one daughter, Mrs. Charlotte S. Sutherland, Chilhowie; one brother, Hulen H. Scott, Abingdon; three grandchildren, Kevin S. Sutherland, Kimberly S. Sturgill, Donald R. Scott; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Clayton H. Scott will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Harry W. Hight Jr. and the Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. Burial will follow in the Knollkreg Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday night at the funeral home. SHIRLEY, Kathleen Mae, 80, of Fincastle, died Thursday, August 11, 1994. She was a member of the Tuesday Morning Club of Fincastle. Mrs. Shirley was preceded in death by one daughter, Erma Grohman. She is survived by two daughters, Thelma Green, Marshall, Va., Dottie Wold, Stanley, Va.; one stepdaughter, Edith Bryant, Daleville; one stepson, Robert E. Shirley, Roanoke; two brothers, Howard E. Conrad, Mechanicsville, Va., James H. Conrad, Elmer, N. J.; four sisters, Carrie T. Sutphin, Preston, Md., Gladys Crenshaw, Mechanicsville, Va., Glenna V. Evans, Greensboro, Md., and Evelyn F. Simmons, Troutville; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 14, 1994 at 2 p.m. at the Rader Troutville Chapel with the Rev. Robert Sadler and the Rev. Harold E. Cook Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home

SMITH, Gloria Delores, Ph. D., 66, of Christiansburg, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 1994 at her residence. She had retired from Virginia Polytechnic University where she was a counseling psychologist. Dr. Smith graduated from Howard University; received her Masters' degrees in education and psychology; and a Ph.D. in psychology from St. Louis University. She was a lifelong member of the NAACP, a member of the board of Th e Virginia Tech YMCA, member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, expert speaker on the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, and devoted parishioner at St. Thomas' Episcopal. Dr. Smith received numerous awards in recognition of distinguished public and professional service, including the 1992 Heroine Award from the Director of VPI's Student Affairs. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William A. Smith, Esq., and son, Michael Smith. Survivors include two sons, Mark and Steven Smith; daughter, Robin Smith; mother, Anne Cole; brother, Dr. Murray Threadgill; daughter-in-law, Carol Smith; and grandson, Hunter N. Smith. Dr. Smith will be fondly remembered by a host of relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 16, 1994. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the New River Valley Hospice, 1806 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg. STANLEY, Leah Thompson, 93, of Ferrum, Virginia, died Wednesday, August 10, 1994, at Eldercare of Rocky Mt., Va. She was born the 15th of June, 1901, the daughter of the late Samuel J. and Laura Turner Thompson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude D. Stanley. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Nell and Jack Mullins, Collinsville, Va., Margaret and Bill Touchton, San Angelo, Tx., four sons and daughters-in-law, Lane Stanley, Roanoke, James (Jimmy ) & Polly Stanley, Tucker, Ga., Warren Stanley, Ferrum, Va., Charles (Chris) and Joan Stanley, Roanoke, Va.; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 1994, at Republican Church Cemetery, Ferrum, Va. Officiating will be Elder Lane Carter. STULTZ, Lawrence F., 77, of Roanoke, went to be with his saviour, Friday, August 12, 1994, after a lengthy illness with leukemia. He owned and operated the L.F. Stultz Plumbing and Heating for 46 years and the Sun Valley Swim Club and Camp Ground for 21 years. He was a Sergeant during World War II, and served in the Philippines and New Caledonia in Japan. He was camp plumber on land and sea. He was a faithful member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church and United Workers Sunday School Class. He was chosen Outstanding Man of the Year by the church in 1987 and was a life member of V.F.W. Post #4522 of Vinton. Lawrence was born April 23, 1917; he was preceded in death by his father, Archie M. Stultz, mother, Alice Day Stultz, and brother, Alfred Stultz. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his devoted wife, Lucille Hogan Stultz, who he married August 4, 1939; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ray Fink of Goodview; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda Myers Stultz, of Roanoke; granddaughter and husband, Robin Hylton Mills and Spencer Mills of Goodview; two grandsons, Troy and Darel Stultz of Roanoke; two great-grandsons, James (Jamie) Robert Dickerson Mills, and Jody Alan Mills of Goodview; one stepgrandson, Jacob Fink of Goodview; five brothers, Warren Stultz and wife, Geneva, Cecil Stultz, Cletus Stultz, Roy Stultz, and Archie (Buddy) Stultz, all of Roanoke; three sisters, Juanita Darnell and husband, Bob, of Roanoke, Frances Pruett and husband, Carl of Goodview, Alice Mae Taylor and husband, Ken, Roanoke; four aunts, Kate Stultz of Martinsville, Loretta Rakestraw, of Nebraska, Pearl Stultz of Bristol, Tenn., Irma Farmer Holmes and husband Harry, of Highland Springs, Va.; many cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends. Funeral services will be held at the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, Monday, 2 p.m., with the Rev. Anthony C. Busic and the Rev. Jean T. Rutherford, with burial in Cedar Lawn Burial Park. TAYLOR, Oleta Farris, 74, of Route 4, Stuart, Va., died Thursday, August 11, 1994, at his home. Mrs. Taylor is survived by her husband, Fred W. Taylor, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Nancy) Drifmeyer, of San Antonia, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Pauline Saunders, of Dubin; one brother, Henry Allen Farris, of Napa Valley, Calif.; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart at 2 p.m. with interment to follow in the Woolwine United Methodist Church Cemetery.
