Navy Ensign Carl D. Brooks Newsome, son of Carl and Mary Sue Newsome of Pulaski, has graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., and was commissioned to his current rank.

Navy Airman Scottie W. Phillips, son of William H. Phillips, Christiansburg, has returned from a six-month Mediterranean Sea deployment with Attack Squadron 35, Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia Beach, embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga.

Navy Ensign David J. Yoder, son of Marvin J. and Jean E. Yoder, Blacksburg, has graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md. and was commissioned to his current rank.
