17-YEAR-OLD CONVICTED OF 1993 CAPITAL MURDER

A judge has convicted a 17-year-old of capital murder for a killing that occurred when the youth was 16.

Prosecutors said they will wait for a psychological profile on Dwayne Markee Reid before deciding whether to ask for the death sentence or life in prison without parole during the sentencing phase of his trial. No date has been set for the sentencing.

Suffolk Circuit Judge Westbrook J. Parker convicted Reid on Friday of capital murder, armed robbery and two firearms charges for robbing and killing Thomas Runyon on Aug. 19, 1993.

Reid was tried before a judge rather than a jury.

If Reid is sentenced to be executed, he will be the youngest of 53 prisoners on Virginia's death row, according to the Department of Corrections.
