Zoo makes changes

Mill Mountain Zoo`s hours and rates have changed. The zoo is now open daily from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Until Nov. 1, regular admission is $3.50, children under 12 are $2, children under 2 are free.

Admission from Nov. 1 through April 1 will be $2.50 for adults, $1.50 for children under 12, and children under 2 are free.

Centerpieces

Mill Mountain Theatre will be presenting "So Nice To Come Home To," for its first Centerpiece of the 1994-95 season.

The play, a new one-act farcical comedy by Paul Sambol, will be performed Oct. 26 at 12:15 p.m. on Mill Mountain Theatre's Main Stage. Admission is free.

Sambol is the recent winner of the theater's New Play Competition. Ernest Zulia will direct.

A limited number of box lunches will be available for purchase prior to the performance.

Youth theater

The Southwest Virginia Theater for Youth is holding open auditions on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. for the one-act comedy, "Muggsy's Merry Christmas," to be performed Dec. 11.

Four male parts and two female parts are available for youths ages 10-19. People interested in working back stage should also sign up on Oct. 15.

Those auditioning should prepare a one- to two-minute monologue and bring an individual photograph taken within one year.

Auditions will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, 845 Hemlock Road, Salem. For more information, call 389-0826 between 8-9 p.m. or 365-5512 after 10:30 p.m.

Art show

The Smith Mountain Arts Council will hold its fifth Annual Art Show Oct. 16-20 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Virginia 122, Moneta.

The show is open to local artists from Franklin, Bedford, Pittsylvania, Campbell and Roanoke Counties and Lynchburg, Roanoke and Martinsville.

Cash prizes will be awarded. For more information, call 721-2244.

Open stage

The Sedalia Center's annual singer-songwriter open stage will be Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Participants should sign up in advance and expect to perform at least three numbers. All should be original music.

Performers receive free admission, others pay $5 or $2 for those 15 or younger. The Sedalia Center is on Virginia 638 off Virginia 122 between Bedford and Big Island. To sign up, call (804) 299-5080.

Center closing early

Center in the Square will close on Saturday at 2 p.m., with the exception of the Mill Mountain Theatre box office, in preparation for the Center's Affair in the Square fund-raiser that evening.

The box office will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to sell Affair in the Square tickets as well as to take theatre reservations.

The Roanoke Valley History Museum will be closed all day.

Trek-O-Rama is Saturday

Trek-O-Rama is coming to the Roanoke Civic Center on Saturday from 1-7 p.m.

Memorabilia vendors will offer Star Trek and other science fiction items for sale.

Mark Lenard, who plays Sarek, Spock's father, will be a guest speaker. Donald R. Schmitt, Director of Special Investigations, Center for UFO Studies, and a best-selling investigative author, will also speak. Schmitt will discuss his book, ``The Truth About the UFO Crash at Roswell,'' and an upcoming movie which will air on the Showtime cable network.

The event is sponsored by WJPR/WFXR Fox 21/27.
