Quality Forum X 2000

RADFORD - Radford University will be the host for the "Quality Forum X 2000 - The Next Decade of Progress," Tuesday, Oct. 25, 8 a.m-1 p.m., in Heth Hall.

During the local program, Ron Secrist and Karen Edmonds will accept the U.S. Senate Productivity Award on behalf of the town of Blacksburg.

The teleconference portion will include a Ford quality study, a panel discussion, findings on the American customer satisfaction index, a presentation of systems thinkings, a discussion of international relationships and other issues related to quality improvement.

The conference is co-sponsored by the American Society for Quality Control, New River Valley Quality Council and Radford University mathematics and statistics department.

Registration deadline is Oct. 19. The is $35, $30 for American Society for Quality Control members and $15 for students.

Christmas aid

PULASKI - The Salvation Army will accept applications for Christmas assistance at the following locations and times:

nPulaski County, Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 17 and Oct. 18, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Salvation Army Corps building, 525 Commerce St.

nGiles County, Wednesday, Oct. 19, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at the Pearisburg Community Center.

nMontgomery County, Thursday and Friday, Oct. 20 and Oct. 21, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at the Belview United Methodist Church, 3619 Onyx Dr., off of Peppers Ferry Road, Christiansburg.

Applicants must bring proof of birth for all children in the household under the age of 14. All adults in the household need to bring identification, such as drivers license, showing current address.

Radford appointments

RADFORD - City Council has appointed four residents to fill out membership of the newly created Radford Environmental Improvement Commission. Appointed at council's regular Monday, Oct. 10, meeting were Preston Durill, Rochelle Carp, Susan Baldwin and Dora Dobbins. The commission will oversee the city's annual Cleanin' 'n' Greenin' spring cleanup.

Council also named ten city residents to an ad hoc committee to explore consolidating several annual events - including Riverfest and Septemberfest - into one fall festival. Among those named to the panel were Councilman Bill Yerrick, Main Street Radford Director Lewis I. "Bud" Jeffries, Development Director David Ridpath, Recreation Director Ken Goodyear and Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Rosemary Middleton.

Others appointed were: Doug Bowman, Marty Gordon, Mandy Martin, Helen Dickens and Ken Bondurant.
