ATKINS, Ruth Dillon, 89, of Fieldale, died Thursday, November 3, 1994. Funeral services 11 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 1994, McKee Funeral Chapel, Martinsville.

CARTER, Eunice Phillips, 85, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 1994, in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was born September 18, 1909, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Willie Phillips and Ella Orange Phillips. She is survived by her husband, Harry J. Carter; a son, Roy L. Carter, Bedford; a daughter, Barbara C. Powers, Bedford; five sisters, Ola Orange, Evie Rodgers, both of Bedford, Gladys McKinney, Montvale, Mary Heddleson, Elsie Phillips, both of Columbus, Ohio; two half-sisters, Cora Woodford, Elizabeth Kinstey, both of Bedford; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, November 4, 1994, at 11 a.m. from the Greenwood Cemetery, by the Rev. Travis Witt. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bedford Life Saving Crew. Updike Funeral Home, Bedford, is handling arrangements.

CASSIDY, Allen Gibbs, 66, of Moneta, passed away Thursday, November 3, 1994 at his residence. He was born May 16, 1928 in Bedford County, a son of the late Oscar F. Cassidy and Bessie Tuck Cassidy. He was a farmer and a member of the Radford Baptist Church. He is survived by six sisters, Frances Bryant, Sarah Cassidy, both of Roanoke, Mary Ayers, Gretna, Peggy Cassidy, Margaret Cassidy, both of Moneta, Geneva Huff, Huddleston; three brothers, Sam Cassidy, Charlie Cassidy, Flavius Cassidy, all of Moneta. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 5, 1994, at 2 p.m. from the Radford Baptist Church by the Rev. Vernon DeLong. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home.

DEAN, Dwight L., 85, of Pulaski, died Wednesday, November 2, 1994. Graveside service 11 a.m. Friday, November 4, 1994, at The Bethany Cemetery, Austinville. Arrangements by Reese Funeral Home, Austinville.

DEEL, Jimmie Leslie, 49, of Salem, went to be with his Saviour on Thursday, November 3, 1994, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born in Botetourt County, he resided in Salem for the past 6 years. He was the Sales Manager of Auto Sales Inc., in Salem from 1981 to January of 1994, when he retired due to his illness. He was also a member of the Troutville Church of the Brethren. He is survived by his wife, Lula B. Deel; daughters and son-in-law, T. Lynn Deel, Salem, Tina Louise and Shaun Thompson, Roanoke; two brothers and sisters-in-laws, Larry G. and Sandra H. Deel, Salem, Jerry L. and Susan C. Deel, formerly of Waynesboro; two sisters and brother-in law, Nancy L. and E. William Toppel, Roanoke, Judy D. Mills, Troutville; parents, Leslie R. Deel and Lucy E. Deel, Fincastle. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 5, 1994 at noon, in the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem, with the Rev. J. Weldon Meyers and Pastor John Ault officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. In honor of his pet dachshund, ""Baby Go Go"", the family requests that donations be made to the S.P.C.A., so that others may know the joy a pet can bring.

FLINCHUM, Sandra Beard, 52, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, November 3, 1994. She was an agent for Richardson-Johnston-Wynn Insurance Agency for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert E. Beard; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby E. and Juanita Stone Beard. She is survived by her husband, James W. Flinchum; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Sue and Roy A. Lambert, Jr., Roanoke; her mother, Elizabeth J. Beard, Roanoke; grandson, Shane Wesley Lambert, Roanoke; special niece, Jamie Beard, Roanoke; nieces, Pamela Ford, Roanoke, Bobbie Jo Hubbard, Henry, and Cindy S. Beard, Roanoke; also surviving are one great-niece and great-nephew. Graveside services will be conducted Monday, November 7, 1994, 2 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with the Rev. FORTUNE, Tommy Ray Sr., 47, of Wytheville, died Thursday, November 3, 1994, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Frank Irvin Fortune and Mary Ruth King Fortune. He is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Shelby Faye Crutchfield, Tammy Lynn and Carl Nuckolls all of Wytheville; one son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Ray, Jr. and Charlene Fortune of Crockett; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Minnie Ailene and Rodney Foglesong of Rural Retreat, Peggy Ann and Pepsi Wright of Wytheville; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Allen Franklin and Geneva Fortune, James Robert ``Bob'' Fortune all of Wytheville, Earnest Caroll and Shannan Fortune of Havre De Grace, Md., Larry Dale Wilson, Sr. of Wytheville; four grandchildren, Jordan Newberry, Chris Nuckolls, Keith Nuckolls, Dustin Nuckolls; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 6, 1994, at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church will the Rev. Bill Dale, the Rev. Don Scott and the Rev. David Olinger officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time. GUILLIAM, Barbara Watts, 61, of 501 Cantebury Drive, Halifax, died Sunday, October 30, 1994, in Edinburgh, Scotland. She was born in Lynchburg on June 25, 1933 the daughter of John Ronald Watts and Mary Keith Watts and was married to Dabney Thomas Poindexter Gilliam. She was a member of the Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church in Roanoke. Mrs. Gilliam is survived by her husband, Dabney Thomas Poindexter Gilliam of Halifax; one daughter, Kathy Ruffin of Winston-Salem, N.C,; two sons, Dexter Gilliam of Halifax, Keith Gilliam of Ruckersville; one brother, John Ronald Watts of Ashland, Ky.; one sister, Mary Winn Hawkins of Lynchburg; nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 6, 1994 at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Cassidy conducting the service. Burial will take place in Oak Ridge Cemetery. HAGA, Margaret Louella, (``Maggie""), 90, of Saltville, died Wednesday, November 2, 1994 in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Va. Mrs. Haga was a former resident of Daleville. Survivors include three sons, Charles E. Haga, Saltville, Herbert R. Haga, Daleville, Tom Haga, Saltville; one sister, Mrs. Annie W. Athey, Clinchburg; two grandchildren, Mark Haga, Saltville, Ms. Kimberly H. Moore, Abingdon; one great-granddaughter, Marketta Haga; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 1994, at the D. R. Henderson Funeral, with the Rev. Harold Puckett officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Rose Cemetery. HAMBLIN, Garfield William, 75, of Radford, passed away Thursday morning, November 3, 1994 at Radford Community Hospital. He was a member of Fairlawn Methodist Church and a member of Virginia May Masonic Lodge #38 A.F. and A.M. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bertie Craig and Robert Hamblin, and two brothers. Garfield is survived by his wife, Virginia Albert Hamblin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha Jean Hamblin Scott and David Scott, Salem, Carol Hamblin House and Mack House, Charlotte, N.C.; two grandsons, Craig and Chris Scott; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Betty Hamblin, Roanoke; one sister and brother-in-law, Geneva and Bobby Carner, McCoy; mother-in-law, Kate Cassell Albert, McCoy. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 6, 1994 at 2:30 p.m. from the Fairlawn United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lewis Weaver and the Rev. Henry Horton officiating. JOHNSON, Boyce Ray, 62, of Route 2, Vinton, passed away suddenly, Wednesday, November 2, 1994, at his residence. He was retired from Aramark in Vinton. Survivors include his wife, Violet Ruth Johnson; one son, David Ray Johnson of the home; two brothers, Ralph Johnson, Roanoke, Morris Johnson of California; two sisters, Evelene Arrington of Salem, Twila Bowen of North Carolina; also several cousins. Lucas, Roanoke; daughters, Sue Ellen Lucas, Charlottesville, Mary Margaret Flippin, Roanoke; son, Robert E. She was born September 3, 1906, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Gardner Hogan and Rebecca Krantz Hogan. She was a member of the Bethesda United Methodist Church, and was retired from American Viscose. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard Roop. She is survived by two sisters, Martha H. Leftwich, Roanoke; Rose H. DeWitt, Staunton; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 5, 1994, at 11 a.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford. SCOTT, Maggie Buckner, 80, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 1994. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Ararlette Buckner; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sadie Akers, Nellie and George Penn, all of Roanoke. SISSON, John Carroll, 25, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, November 1, 1994 in a Roanoke hospital. He was born December 15, 1968 in Philadelphia, Pa. the son of Charles Clinton Sisson of Staunton and Jeanne Kerr Cross of Charlottesville. He was a graduate of Albemarle High School and attended Roanoke College. He was employed by Virginia Building Services and served with the U.S. Navy during the Persian Gulf Operation, Desert Storm. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Richard Kerr Sisson of Charlo ttesville; stepfather, Robert L. Cross of Charlottesville; stepmother, Lynn Sisson of Staunton; paternam grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Sisson of Silver Spring, Md.; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Kerr of Harrisburg, Pa.; and a number of uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Anna Crozier Kerr. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Charlottesville conducted by Pastor Robert Holley. Interment will be in Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton with a graveside service at 4 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1 until 1:45 p.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the service.
