WILLIAM D. COLE succeeds Earhart as director of expenditure accounting. REUBEN CHAPMAN VI has been promoted from manager of accounting systems to succeed Cole as director of payroll accounting.
Earhart joined Norfolk Southern in 1985, Cole has worked for the company since 1967, and Chapman joined Norfolk Southern in 1978.
Norfolk Southern has 290 employees in its accounting operations in Roanoke.
ENGINEERS
Virginia Tech professor JAMES MICHAEL DUNCAN has been awared the Pletta Award by the Virginia Society of Professional Engineers. The award is given annually to recognize a Virginia engineering educator who has exhibited outstanding teaching and public service.
BANKING
HENRY J. FAISON, president of Faison Associates in Charlotte, N.C., and a developer of commercial real estate in the Roanoke area, has been redesignated chairman of the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond for 1995. He has been a director since 1990, having been appointed by the board of governors of the Federal Reserve System.
Piedmont BankGroup in Martinsville has named WILLIAM O. TURNER vice president and chief auditor, MATTHEW A.R. CONVERSE assistant vice president and audit manager, and R. RONALD HALL vice president and chief loan review officer. Turner and Converse lead the audit department of Piedmont BankGroup Inc., which has overall responsibilities for implementing the audit programs and functions throughout the holding company's six affiliate banks. Hall is responsible for review of credits of all member banks.
COAL
A. JAMES DEARLOVE has been elected president and chief operating officer of Penn Virginia Corp., a Philadelphia-based energy company which owns coal deposits in Southwest Virginia. He is president of Penn Virginia Coal Co. and Penn Virginia Equities Corp., both subsidiaries of the parent company.
COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES
DAVID R. WHITE of Roanoke and JAMES L. HUTTON of Blacksburg have been elected to the Emory & Henry College board of visitors. White is president of White Tire Distributors Inc., operating stores in Virginia, Tennessee and West Virginia. Hutton is senior partner in the law firm of Gilmer Sadler, Ingram, Sutherland & Hutton in Blacksburg.
FINANCIAL SERVICES
SAMUEL A. GOLSTON has joined IDS Tax and Business Services as manager of its Roanoke division. Golston has been a certified public accountant since 1974 and a certified financial planner since 1989. He has been with the company since 1993, and was previously owner and manager of Baker Golston & Co. in Prescott, Ariz., from 1988 through 1993. Prior to that, he was partner and manager of Gramlich Hackett & Golston CPAs in Parkersburg, W. Va. for 15 years.
HOSPITALITY
LAURIE STEVENS has joined the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center as sales manager. Stevens had been with the Blacksburg Marriott hotel since 1984 and had been the sales and catering manager since 1986.

JOHN C. JOHNSON, an associate with Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore in Roanoke, has been elected to the board of governors for the Virginia State Bar Young Lawyers Conference for a two-year term.
MANUFACTURING
RICHARD FORMATO JR. of Roanoke was recently named chairman of The Sales Edge Inc. based in Annapolis, Md. The Sales Edge is a manufacturer's representative agency that markets, merchandises and services products primarily to warehouse home center and hardware store chains and membership clubs.
MEDIA
KAREN TRAVIS has been appointed vice president and general manager of Virginia Network Inc.'s five Lynchburg and Roanoke radio stations, which include WRDJ-FM and WJJS-FM in Roanoke.
ORGANIZATIONS
ART HEBERER, president of Import Auto Recycling Inc. in Salem, has been given the Automotive Recyclers Association's President's Award for 1994 for his contributions to the automotive recycling industry. His company was established in 1980 and recycles import vehicles to car dealers, body shops and automotive repair companies throughout the United States.
CHARLES E. CARR of Buena Vista has been named a director of Central Virginia Industries Inc. based in Lynchburg. He is plant manager of Modine Manufacturing Co.
RETAIL
STEPHEN TERRY has joined the staff of Davidson's Inc., a menswear retailer based in Roanoke, where his responsibilities will include sales support, assistant manager of the Tanglewood Mall store and footwear merchandising for the company.
SCHOOLS
Eight new members have joined Community School's board of trustees: DEBRA KURSHAN, a senior at Patrick Henry High School, Roanoke Valley Governor's School and CITY School; WAYNE LEWIS, chief operating officer of Valley Bank; MARIANA SORENSEN, Community School parent and volunteer; and JAMES WILLIAMS, owner of Meridian Enterprises. Joining the board for one-year terms are LORRAINE FLECK, formerly director of communications at Hollins College; ROBIN HAMMERSTROM, senior vice president of Planned Parenthood of the Blue Ridge; DAVID WOODALL-GAINEY, senior programmer analyst at Virginia Tech's College of Agriculture; and BILL HUNLEY, teacher at Community School.
North Cross School has elected three new members to its board of trustees: ROBERT G. BENNETT, senior vice president of Grand Piano and Furniture Co. Inc.; PATRICIA "LEE" JESSEE, alumni representative and resouce teacher at North Cross; and JANE MARGARET O'BRIEN, president of Hollins College.

EUGENE M. ELLIOTT JR., a Roanoke attorney, has been appointed to the board of trustees of Virginia Episcopal School, a coeducational college-preparatory boarding and day school in Lynchburg. Elliott is a 1964 graduate of the school and is president of the VES Alumni Association.
