BUSINESS VIEWS IN ROANOKE

Tyler Pugh, senior vice president and manager, Wheat First Butcher Singer: "Traditionally, in the long term, the philosophy Republicans espoused has proven favorable for business and favorable for the stock market. Moderation in spending and tax policy has proven good for business - especially taxation."

William Nash, manager, Scott & Stringfellow Inc.: "We feel in the near term that it will not have that much impact on the stock market, which is driven by inflation fears and higher interest rates. But in the longer term, six to 12 months out, it will have a positive impact. We might see a return to the question of the capital gains tax and Congress revisiting retirement accounts. We might see creation of a medical savings account, which would be good for the economy."
