CHRISTMAS AID STORE IN SALEM

The Community Christmas Store, a volunteer organization to help low-income families in Salem and Roanoke County have a more festive Christmas, will be located this year in the West Salem Plaza at West Main and Fourth streets.

Items being donated will be accepted at the building (former Rose's Store) on the next three Saturdays - Nov. 12, 19 and 26 - from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., said Teresa Thomas, chairman of the publicity committee. The store's official address is 846 W. Main St.

Items needed are winter clothing for all ages, baby items, non-perishable foods, household and gift items and Christmas wrapping and decorating items. The store also needs cash donations, Thomas said.

All clothing items must be clean and in good repair, she said. Summer clothing, furniture and large appliances cannot be accepted.

Volunteers to operate the store also are needed, Thomas said. Those wishing to volunteer can do so by calling Judy Barricks at 380-2211. Questions regarding donations should go to Pat Dew at 389-1048.

The store will be open Dec. 9 and 10, and organizers hopeto serve about 500 families in Salem and Roanoke County. Families must be certified by a social service agency.

Cash donations can be mailed to the store at P.O. Box 616 in Salem.
