LIBERTY PULLS AWAY TO TITLE

LYNCHBURG - Kellea Worley ignited a 10-0 third-quarter run with a pair of steals and transition baskets as Liberty beat Amherst 46-39 in the championship of the Seminole District girls' basketball tournament Saturday night at Liberty University's Vines Center.

The Minettes (18-5) qualify for the Region III tournament and play William Byrd at Magna Vista High School at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Suzanne Maddox scored 15 points for Amherst (13-10).

Pioneer District

BUCHANAN - Glenvar held a 16-point lead over Parry McCluer after one quarter and cruised to a 57-30 victory in the championship game.

Marilea Hale scored 18 points for the Highlanders (20-2), who will open the Region C tournament at home at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Auburn. The Fighting Blues (15-6) travel to Galax on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. Region C game.
