MAN ACQUITTED IN RUSTLING CASE

A 36-year-old Atkins man charged with rustling a registered Holstein calf valued at $2,000 has been acquitted.

Joey Wayne Buck was arrested when the animal, taken from a farm near Rural Retreat Lake in Wythe County, was found in a fenced-in area near Buck's home in the Crow Hollow section of Smyth County.

Judge Willis Woods made the ruling this week during Buck's grand larceny trial in Wythe County Circuit Court. Buck testified that he had bought the calf from a man he did not know and could not identify.
