THE PEOPLE COLUMN

Paula Jones has filed a $30 million suit against Penthouse to block the publication of a dozen nearly-nude photos of her.

Jones, who filed a sexual harassment suit against President Clinton, says the photos - to be in the magazine out Dec. 6 - were taken by ex-boyfriend Mike Turner in 1987 - when she was 19 - and ``he assured me that he would not show or give the photographs to anyone, that they were for his own personal viewing.''

In an accompanying article, her sister, Charlotte Brown, recalls that after coming out of her fateful meeting with then-Gov. Clinton, Jones ``was excited; she was in no way upset.''

Jones' bro-in-law Mark Brown said Jones once appeared naked before him as he baby-sat and bragged that she had ``been to bed with 15 different men before she was 17.'' Jones has contended she had sex with only one man in her mid-teens.

Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford, whose marriage three years ago created perhaps the most beautiful gene pool in Hollywood, have separated. The couple issued a statement after sneering at rumors of an imminent breakup.

``This personal and painful decision was made between us in July,'' they said. ``Since that time we have been trying to work things out, but due to the recent conjecture in the press, we have decided to make a statement at this time.''

Tiny Tim, 62, announced on ``Geraldo'' that he's divorcing his wife of 10 years, Miss Jan, and will take a third, Miss Sue, 39, a songwriter.

Newt Gingrich --is there anything that can't do? He's got a new, sex-spiced spy novel coming out next summer called ``1945.'' A sample: ``Suddenly the pouting sex kitten gave way to Diana the Huntress. She rolled onto him and somehow was sitting athwart his chest, her knees pinning his shoulders. `Tell me or I will make you do terrible things,' she said.'' The House speaker-to-be says he plans to ``tone it down just enough so that it gets to be PG-13 and not R.''
